Take note of the compatibility listing on Samsung's website. No mention of the newer models. However, if you are thinking of picking up the new device you still have today to count towards a pre-order. This would unlock the promotion to get the new VR headset for free! I've just got the s8 today I'm in UK we didn't get the free vr offer this year, I've got the vr headset I'll have to look in box to see if there was a adapter can't remember seeing one but that was a year ago, thanx for reply

The one I got with my Note 7 had a USB C connector. I haven't tried to see if it fits yet though. I'll try tonight when I get home from work.

Hi, did u find out if it works? I'm having the same issue. Got be with the note 7 but sent the usb type c adapter back with it...samsung are trying to tell me the s8 plus doesn't fit in the old vr and the new one is just for the s8.

Before my 2017 Samsung Gear VR arrived, I used my S8+ with my 2016 Samsung Gear VR. It worked fine. The 2016 Gear VR came with two lock-in connectors--one for Type C (which the Note 7 also used) and one for Micro-B USB. You just have to use the Type C connector. (There's a also a micro-to-C adapter, but that's for the power connection, not for where the phone plugs in.)

The white one is actually a 2015 model. The black one is the 2016 and the black with controller is 2017.

It will work with the 2016 and 2017 versions only.

I can confirm the s8 and s8 plus is NOT COMPATIBLE with the SM-R322 white samsung vr gear.

To locate your model
remove the vr protector
you'll find your model as you look facing the lens
( on the bottom )

I have contacted my service provider and Samsung HOPING they would replce my old VR with the new black one to no avail. ( RATS )

P.S. : You cannot exchange the connection on the VG or try adding an adapter
