Will taking my Motorola G7 Play in and out of the case often damage or bend the phone, since it's a two piece heavy duty case?

It might depend on how stiff the case is and how much pressure you have to apply to take it off. But the G7 Play isn't know for bending easily, so it's unlikely that it'd be a problem. I'd say that the main risk is for scuffs along the edges, as well as the risk of your hands slipping while you're applying the pressure needed to get the case off, which could lead to the phone dropping onto the floor.
