Unfortunately, you are in the same boat as many others. My best advice would be to stalk the Google page until you see devices in stock and then my grab your bank card as quickly as possible. Its also important to be a little flexible when it comes to storage size and colour especially when there is high demand and low production.

I wish you the best of luck @ddiehl, hopefully you can snag a Pixel. Maybe even look at other countries and see if importing is worth it?

If you are on Verizon, I got one Wednesday this week (3/1) walking into a VZW Corporate store. VZW's website showed no in store availability within 50 miles, but this store had one in stock (128 GB, Quite Black, not XL).

I went in to change to the new UDP, and was fully expecting to have to order the phone for delivery next week (website showed a 3/7 ship date). Pleasant surprise that they had one.

And good for me, now I have to travel all next week.

Do you have any friends or family in Canada? Both colours still in stock on the Canadian google play store. I don't think they've ever gone out of stock up here. Also available on most carriers up here. Odd that this phone is way easier to get in Canada than the US. Usually it's the other way around!

There's an app called Store Stock Checker on the Playstore. It has real time notifications for when devices sold through the Playstore become available. You can sign up for notifications on the Google Store, but many times I've found when you do that, by the time you get the email, they're out of stock again. I used it for the first time to get a Nexus 6p when that had stock issues. Now if you're planning on getting it through Verizon, it's not as easy. However they seem to get preferential treatment so far as stock goes, so they might be the better option if you're going to use it on Verizon and aren't worried about having an unlocked bootloader.
