I'm on the verge of selling my unlocked Nexus 4 and Sprint GS3 to buy this. But I need to know if it can be used on Sprint before I sell my phones.

Highly doubt it. For sure, the unlocked version does not have the CDMA radios for Sprint, so you definitely won't get any 3G with Sprint. Not sure if the LTE will work, but even if it does, you're basically stuck with nothing if you're outside of Sprint's LTE coverage.

From their site:

This special HTC One? Developer Edition comes with: 64GB of onboard memory, SIM unlocked and has an unlocked bootloader. Compatible on these frequencies: - HSPA/WCDMA: 850/1900/2100 MHz - GSM/GPRS/EDGE: 850/900/1800/1900 MHz - LTE: 700/850/AWS/1900 MHz (US)

Even if it did, the top two CDMA carriers (Sprint, Verizon) won't activate a phone that isn't theirs. .

But the minor ones will.. like Metro PCS, Boost Mobile etc.. even tho Sprint and VZW owns most prepaid cdma carriers

Ok now when I read this and check their sprint frequencies I see that the WCDMA raido runs on 1900 which is sprints. Os it should work if I'm not mistaken.

But, see the post above yours. Unless you do some things we can't discuss here it's not gonna get activated.

No. You will not be able to use this on sprint. What's stopping you from getting a sprint model?

Just got off the phone with sprint, talked to activations and technical support and both said they saw no reason they could not activate the dev one as long as it supports sprints bands. Take this for what it is worth, it came from sprint customer service line :-)

IF it's indeed true... That's interesting

WCDMA does not equal CDMA. They are two different technologies.

The unlocked version will not work on Sprint, or Verizon.

Wouldn't it be great though. That would mean 64 gig sprint HTC one.

isnt the whole point of the unlocked version that you can use it on any network as well as use your own custom roms?

WCDMA is not the same thing as Sprint's CDMA. The naming is confusing, but WCDMA is actually 3G GSM. Sprint's CDMA is CDMA2000.

Sure, but CDMA networks are wonky. No one uses that **** except Sprint and Verizon. Most of the world is GSM based. Everything will converge with LTE. Or at least that's the pipe dream.

Even if/when everything converges on LTE, we're already well on our way to seriously fragmenting the LTE spectrum on a carrier by carrier level.

I don't have an upgrade and after having the Nexus 4 while I've been abroad I hate the idea of going to back to a carrier locked phone.

The point is that you can use it on networks that allow it. Sprint and Verizon will only activate phones that have registered serial numbers in their inventory systems. They are closed systems.

Actually, I contacted Sprint after reading this forum out of curiosty, and to help others who are also wondering, to see if they accept factory unlocked devices and was told that they will, and do, activate such devices. I'm with Boost Mobile personally, and they activate unlocked phones as well. Hopefully this helps some of you who were unsure if they would or not..
