Will the Verizon reps skip tutorials or anything?

This is going to be my first smartphone. I assume that when I purchase, the VZW rep is going to insist on activating it in the store. While it's really going to bother me that they will have their hands all over my new phone (yes, I'm one of those people:)), I've come to terms with it.

What I'm wondering is, when they go through the activation process, are they going to have to skip all the tutorials and stuff or mess with anything on the home screen?

Nope. When I got mine all the rep did was install the battery and SIM card and turn it on. Then he handed it to me and told me it would take several minutes to activate and basically I'd be ready to go.

No there is no real tutorials in the setup wizard so you wont be missing anything really helpful. But let them know that you are unfimilar with the Android UI and i am sure they will give you tips and tricks. Most apps that have tutorials usually offer them upon opening the application.

Also Verizon has online workshops if you are interested. Just logon to your vzw account and on the my verizon page there is advertisments for their free workshops.

If all else fails there are Youtube videos and Here at Android Central there are thousands of people happy to help you.

Thank you.
I'm pretty tech savvy so I'm not too worried about being confused, but I'm just kind of nitpicky about not getting to experience everything the phone offers. So if all they will do is install the battery and SIM card to get it running, that would be great! I just really do not want them to go into the phone and start trying to set up my gmail account for me or something.

I just told my rep I didn't want her to open the box or activate it, because I was just picky that way. I told her I would activate it later. She said that was fine with her, as it made her job easier. She did take the time to write down the number to call to activate it over the phone.

It was great. I was the first person to touch my phone.

I told the Rep that I wanted to setup my own phone. He said, "I wish everyone would say that".

He didn't even power it up. He opeaned the back cover to install the sim and put it back in the box.

The initial activation didn't go through and the process timed out. I was prompted to reboot the phone and it work the second time. With this being a 4G phone the activation is simple because of the SIM chip.

My wife went and got mine. She was on the account, so no problem. I don't think they opened the box, but I had my wife open it to put it on charge, so when I got home it was all charged and ready to go. I had to (got to?) install the sim card. I couldn't get it activated with the directions the store gave, so I called Tech Support and they walked me through it, pressing whatever buttons they needed to on their end to get it working. Otherwise dialing *anything* got an external operatore who would take a CC to allow you to make a call - including toll free, which is what the instructions I was given to set it up required. .

Mine went through some my back up (maybe an altel artifact or a windows artifact) and the dude had to remove the battery to get it to work TWICE! I cringed when they kept on opening and closing the cover.

I worked basically across the street so I left them with it.

Seems like you guys had better experiences. Then the "authorized dealer" charged me $15 which I didn't see till later. Next time, I'm just ordering online.
