Today I went to optimus M forums to see any updates for my cousin when I stumbled upon this. People do a process which increased their 3G speeds dramatically! The thread is here. how to boost 3g in stock 2.3.4 - Android Forums

Note: I know it says samsung Admire or whatever but people from the optimus m forums went crazy about this.

If this theory doesn't work, then is there any working process out there?

This is for Metro PCS ONLY. On the side, Metro barely has 3g working. Its just 1x data everywhere. So they experience slow sspeeds. :D

I tried it and data wouldnt come up after it rebooted. I had to switch it back to get data again.

Best bet is to change PRL, I get 1-2 bars in my house, in front of it I get 4 bars.

I'm on the latest PRL 60683 I believe. :)

I've tried several different PRLs with no adverse effects. However, I believe some people lost MMS functionality or had other data issues. Easily resolved by switching back to original or trying a different PRL.

Is this effective?

My data speeds are so wildly variable that it's really hard to get a consistant baseline for comparison. I can go from 500 kb/s to 1Mb/s in a matter of seconds just by moving the phone slightly. Really hard to tell if it's effective or not.

I've always wondered about changing my prl. I only get 1 car in and all around my house and neighborhood. How would I find which Orlando would be best?

i thought i read that if you changed youre prl that data wouldnt work... but you would have better reception... ???

I just changed my prl to 60686. I had to reflash Froyo (and haven't restored Harmonia2 yet), but before prl change, sitting in the same spot, I had ping: 467; down: 57kbps; up: 46 kbps (and that was a high reading. A lot of times I couldn't even get a test)).
Three tests since change.
1) ping: 434; down: 102 kbps; up: 26 kbps.
2) ping: 649; down: 170 kbps; up: 16 kbps.
3) ping: 243; down: 249 kbps; up: 146 kbps.
It could be a fluke, but it looks like I have better data speeds. Netflix ran all right. I'll lose it anyway when I put Harmonia back, but I want the bluetooth HID more than Netflix.
Tethering my Thrive: ping: 528; down: 298 kbps; up 195 kbps, so, about the same as non-tether speeds.
I'll have to check speeds when I get to an area that shows greater reception on my Sprint phone.
