Navigation by itself can cause phones to get a little warm.

Mine wasnt mounted on the dash, but I had fast car charger, GPS, and music from NOLA to Houston. No problems. It was warm, but not overly so to where I got concerned.

I think the Note 5 has the GTNO sensor built in.

I use an car AC vent clip that holds the phone in the cold air. Keeps the phone cool while charging and playing podcasts. Even in our summer heat.
