Will Verizon hotspots app work with a different rom?

My office pays my cell bill and covers the Verizon mobile hotspots plan. I want to load cm7 or something similar since that is what I am using on my nook. I know wireless tether is available but I don't want Verizon blocking it down the road when I have the legit app paid for.

You wont find roms as complete as CM7 on a Motorola device due to the locked Bootloader but the roms that are made for Droid X mobile hotspot should work fine.
