Will white get dirty?

I've never really been interested in a white phone but that white N5 is really growing on me. I think I like it because the side profile is dominated by black so the contrast is just right especially with the large black camera and black buttons. I have heard some say white will quickly get dirty especially if is has a rubbery texture on the back. Others say their white phones stay perfectly clean. Thoughts? I will most likely not put a case on it.

Now the eye candy:

I don't have any issues with my white moto x, but apparently some have. So I don't know. I keep my hands clean which equals clean phone. I imagine people having issues with cleanliness on white phone have grimy hands...

Neither my white iPhone 3gs or my one x every showed any signs of dirt. White stays surprisingly clean.

I think it depends more on the material and finish than the color alone. Soft-touch white is what people have been experiencing trouble with. That said, I'm very much liking the look of white on this phone.

I always put a screen protector on the back of the gadget I own. Better safe than sorry.

I agree with op . I really like the piano look of the white phone.

As appealing as the white is I have the same questions. And as suggested by Patrick, the softer touch materials can present more of a problem. Though, the white would be nice to contrast its black N7 counterpart.

I always had white iPhones and they never got dirty, but then again, I always kept a skin on the front/back and a case. I think I'm going with white, though.

The One X had a few complaints of dyes rubbing off on it or other dirt, but a common remedy is to use a Mr. Clean Magic Eraser (or a variant/knock off of it) to clean it. A glossy-white plastic back (like the 3GS) would not get dirty because of dyes or anything, but if it gets scratched, it may show the dirt/grime that builds up in the space. And of course, an iPhone 4 wouldn't quite be the same on the back since it's glass, although there is a slight plastic lip on the edges that can show dirt.

Didn't some people complain about their white N4 getting yellow/grimy? That obviously wasn't a soft touch material. I am interested in the white version now that I've seen and like the way it looks, but it getting dirty or showing up dirt and grime easier, is a concern for me.

Hm, I honestly do not recall.

I'm still on the fence on the white... I think it looks just a tiny bit more premium than the black, but I'll have it in a case anyway.

My woven white Moto X gets dirty fast. I have to clean the back pretty much every day, and I have to constantly watch where I sit it. Fortunately, most of the black smudges can be cleaned off if done in a timely manner. But if something like kool-aid or easter egg dye or something got on there, I'm sure it would be stained permanently. And the only way to prevent the black smudges is to basically wash your hands before each time you touch your phone and wipe down every counter top before sitting it down.
I like the look of the white phones a little better, though, so I may still get the white N5 even after seeing how dirty my Moto X can get. I'll most likely be using a case, though, so it kind of makes it a non-issue for me.

Wash your hands before each time you touch it? Wow that definitely makes me hesitate on the white. Normally I would wait to see what reviews say about it but Im ordering this thing on day one. Gotta make a decision now. I could put up with needing to give it a quick wipe down every night. I guess worst case I end up putting a case on it but I'd prefer not too. To me phones are already too big without the added bulk of a case.

IMO the white looks pretty dumb. But if I had to put money on it...is yes! Its sorta like your car. Take care of it and it will last a lot longer! So if you happen to go with the white just clean it every now and then. Otherwise if its that big of a deal just get the black one. As the white one with its black front looks pretty bad anyways.

I think taking 30 seconds to clean the back each night would be fine for my Moto X. It's not like I live in filth and ash or anything; in a single day, it doesn't get dirty enough for anyone to notice besides yourself. It takes a few days of accumulation before it reaches that point. I notice it because I see the difference in color when I clean it.

Also, as others have mentioned, this all depends on the back of the phone. I see some saying the white Nexus 4 had problems, but I figured the glass back would be a lot easier to stay clean than this woven plastic. Then again, if the Nexus 5 has a softer material like I'm thinking of, that could be even harder to keep clean than the woven plastic on the Moto X.

By the way, what specifically is best to wipe it with? Dry cloth/microfiber type thing or alcohol wipes?
