Windows 11 update?

We bought our son a new laptop for Christmas and it can be updated to Windows 11. Should I just wait a little while before upgrading to it? He probably wouldn't care either way so I'm assuming it doesn't make a difference. If it were mine I'd be quick to upgrade it.

imo, it is best to get it updated now while needing setup and other updates. That way it is only done once. Otherwise you will have to update it with win10 then install and update win11. will save time in the long run.

Windows 11 seems fine on my laptop. Ironically, it kind of looks more like Chrome OS now.

I just bought my first Chromebook a few weeks ago and got a new gaming laptop with Windows 11 about a week later. My first thought was Microsoft is trying to copy Google lol

As to the original question, I'd get it updated right away. The longer you run 10 on it and the more apps/programs installed the higher the risk there are problems with the update.

I'm running Windows 11 on a laptop that is 4 years old and came with Windows 10. I haven't experienced any problems whatsoever.

So I would definitely recommend installing Windows 11 on new hardware ASAP. Otherwise the setup process will be lengthy as it was for me, despite having 300 Mbps downstream Internet at my house.

Thats for sure. You do not want to set it up for win10, putting up with the hours of downloading and updating then a few months down the road decide to upgrade to win11 and go through all of that again. It can be a pain.

Just to note - I have mainly been running linux for 17 years. I have four computers and was dual booting with windows on one computer just in case I needed it. Not no more. The only time I have been running windows was to keep it updated and the last update was to win11 before it got deleted. With my luck, I will run across something that requires windows real soon.

What Linux distro are you running, or is it more than one? I like CentOS and openSUSE.

I mainly run linux mint but I started playing around with Ubuntu and KDE Neon. Suse, before it became open, was my first and ran it for about a couple of years before going to another.

I still like KDE. Ubuntu was the first distro I tried. I like Mint better than Ubuntu now but haven't used either in a while.

I am loving Windows 11 on my new Asus Vivobook. I would update it.
