Am I missing something here, or are these just a gimmick. You still need too plug in the wireless charger, so why not just plug in your normal charger. Or that extra money and your not gaining anything.

Yes the wireless orb or any other Qi charger has to be plugged into a power source. Just gaining a nifty feature. I bought a Qi charger (not the orb) off of ebay for like $30, and I'm happy with it.
Different strokes...

I also use wireless, but on an S3. The number one thing to go bad on a phone is the port where you plug it in to charge. Almost all the phones I have ever owned the port gets so loose over time that I have to wiggle the cable back and forth, and if you slightly touch it looses connection. I also have modded wireless charger for the car so that when I place in the cradle it charges.

What were you expecting? A tiny nuclear reactor inside the orb? Yes it still needs to be plugged in.
The reason for using the orb over plugging your phone in is ease of access. You can just pick it up and keep going in one swoop.

There's a difference: plug in the wireless charger once, and you're done. Your phone needs to be plugged in every time you charge it, and then unplugged when you're ready to go.

With my CHOE Qi Wireless charging package from Amazon, I do not have to plug in to charge my Nexus 4 smartphone
