Wireless Charging Adapter

Testing out this wireless charging adapter. So far it appears to be working. I can see that the phone is charging and holding a steady flow of charge as well (sometimes these flicker if your phone's battery is full). It's a bit bulky, about as thick as a book of matches, you wouldn't be able to use this with a hard sided case, but my TPU case fits fine with it on. It doesn't cover up the finger print sensor either. It certainly bulges out the back of the case a bit, but anything would do that.

I'm using my old Samsung charging pad.

The real test will be if it heats up. Many of these get dangerously hot when in use.

Of course installing this means your USB C port is taken up, and you have to remove the case to get at it.

Will check back in in a while to report on the heat. So far so good. I don't use NFC or have any way to test it. Cell signal doesn't appear impacted.

2 hours in. Slightly warm, but barely so. Will give it another 6, then try overnight.

I've been using that on my OG Pixel for months and it's great.

I plug it in every night and set the phone on my wireless charging cradle, allowing me to pick up my phone in the middle of the night without the hassle of cords. It's been pretty great, though I don't use a case which helps.

I will use it on my Pixel 2 XL when it arrives.

Left it charging overnight, no heat buildup at all, kept the phone charged, so happy with it so far. @vansmack I was thinking of doing the same, only using it at home since having this under my case means I can't really easily get a wired charge while driving.

Correct, it's not fast charge. But it's fast enough to keep up with usage for me at least.

Cherenkov - were you trying this on a Pixel 2 or 2 XL?

I can't get it to work on my 2 XL. It's lights up, says it's charging, but when I wake up in the morning it hasn't charged at all.

I'd like to know also. I used this on my original XL and it worked fantastic, but it won't charge my Pixel 2 ... it's doing the same thing that vansmack is experiencing.

On the plus side Tom, I'm not losing any battery overnight - last night I set it down at 63% and woke up 8 hours later at 64% ;)

I've got a Pixel 2. Maybe the XL needs more juice?

That's what it sounds like. Thanks for getting back to me.

I'm going to try to up the ampage with a different plug tonight. XDA has someone who has it working with a 2 XL.

Figured it out - it was the wireless charging stand.

For my OG Pixel, this charger worked like a champ. But it didn't work for the Pixel 2 XL for whatever reason.

I upgraded to this charger and it works just as well as before. Maybe even a little better!

Vansmack, How is the new charging stand been working so far? Any concerns with it? Did you get a new cable and plug for it or use your old ones? Thanks for the update.

No problem - I used the same set up from my OG Pixel, although I switched the cable to the cable that came with the Charging Stand, though it wokred with my old cable as well (i changed for color preference). That cable is plugged into the iPad port on this old Anker multi-USB plug, and it cranks out 5W.

It was this wireless adapter:

And this wireless stand:

I have plugged into this Anker multi-USB plug (though there are many, newer smarter versions than this one):

I can't tell you how fast it's charging as I use it before I go to bed, but last night I set it on the stand around 10PM with 18% battery left and woke up with a fully charged battery at 6AM. The phone does not get hot at all....

If you're still having problems, I have a new suggestion based on my experience: Power off your phone. Count to three. Power it back on and it should work with your wireless charger.

Allow me to explain...

So it worked brilliantly Wednesday through Sunday. This battery is such a beast I only needed to charge it overnight with the wireless stand.

On Monday, I came to work and towards the afternoon I plugged my phone into the OEM charger to top it off. On Monday night the wireless charger didn't work. So Tuesday, when I got to work I plugged it back in the OEM charger to charge it up. Tuesday night, the wireless charger didn't work again.

Frustrated, I looked back to see what I did differently. The only thing I did was use the OEM charger during the day. So this morning, I powered off my phone, powered it back up and put the phone back on the wireless charger while I got ready for work. Low and behold, the battery went from 27% to almost 50% in that hour.

Huge PITA, but it looks like initiating PD might be the problem. Today I'm using my non-PD car charger to and from work just to see if it's any charger or just PD, but I have a sneaking suspicion it has something to do with using the OEM charger.

Same. As long as I don't top up mid day with the OEM charger, my wireless charging overnight works great.

As soon as I use the OEM, it won't work until a reboot.
