Wireless Charging cover? Anyone get it yet?

Has anyone gotten the wireless charging back for the Droid3 yet?

Coming from a Palm Pre+ with a touchstone charger sitting on my dresser at home and another sitting on my desk at work, I loath the thought of going back to the life of plugging in a USB cord every day.

Thats kinda funny, I was just coming to AC to ask this exact same question. I REALLY want inductive charging, I hope they have all this stuff ready on Thursday when I go to get my D3.

Im curious about this as well. Does anyone know if the inductive back adds thickness to the device?

Has your experience with wireless charging been that charging speed is adequate?

My wife had a Palm Pre+ with the touchstone and if they do work, I will get a back for my D3. Question is does it make the D3 any thicker? During the day, I'm already carrying a D2G and a D3 so don't need any more bulk.

I wouldn?t equate charging speed from the Pre/touchstone to any of the Android offerings because I don?t know how similar they are, but as far as the touchstone/Pre setup, it has been shown to charge *faster* than just plugging in the cable.

Wireless charging is one of those neat extras that you never really appreciate how nice it could be until you?ve used it for some time.

Thats just the cover.....what Pad or Mat does is use?? Or does it not matter??

I’m not overly familiar with it (thus the original inquiry) but here is one on the VZW website. This thing is positively fugly compared to the little touchstone charger, but there it is. Don’t know if these support the Qi standard or not.

Charging Mat

Is it worth $100? I love the idea of being able to just place my phone on my nightstand on the pad and charge it, with out having to fumble with cables in the dark, but $60 for the mat, and $30 for the cover is a bit steep.

My thoughts too. *if* the charging mat is Qi standard complient, I'd hope to see cheaper ones out shortly.

I'll wait a while to see if the cost goes down, but I'll miss it.

If they are compliant, there are plenty that were owned by ex-palm folks that look at them as boat anchors so you could pick one up cheap. Just saw one with a $10 buy it now on Ebay...

I received both the VZW/LG charge pad, and the battery cover yesterday, and returned them today. While the charging seemed to work fairly well, the handset did seem to get pretty warm after only 30-45 minutes time. the primary reason I returned this was my phone was acting all crazy opening various apps, and email, etc. all by itself while on the charge pad. I tried it both at home and at work and it did this at both places. Seeing as how this uses an RF signal, I'm not sure how this is impacted by other wireless devices and equipement creating interference. For me that was just not worth having stuff fire off by itself, for the steep price of $100. I'll happily buy another expensive dock, or wall charger just to avoid that mysterious activity. Could just be me, but be aware!

I would highly doubt that the Palm Touchstones are Qi compliant.

I truly wish they were as I have two of them. That, and the touchstone chargers are so much more elegant than the coffee-mug-warmer looking inductive chargers that are coming out for all the other phones.

They had the mats in my store, but not the battery covers, so I just ended up going with the media dock. I may revisit the wireless charging later, especially if its compatible with something cheaper then Verizons $70 mat.

All of Verizon's wireless charging accessories are Qi compliant. The Verizon version is also cheaper than any other Qi charging mat out there.

I was asking if you use the wireless charging battery cover, THEN use a case, will it charge through the case? I typically put my phones in cases and it looks like the wireless charging cover is the same size as the normal one...so I could use a case.

Would it charge through the case?

Sorry, didn't mean to quote yours. I'm on other VB forums and the buttons are switched around here.

Yes it should charge through the case, but the extra layer with the case will definitely slow down the charging time.
