wireless charging makes battery hot.

I recently started using the Samsung wireless charger about a month ago and love it. However, I leave it on the charger overnight and some nights (not all) I will wake up to the fan really cranking and my phone is piping hot. I have it set on slow charging so I couldn't guess what the problem might be. I'm going back to wired charging untill then.

sounds like something to do with an app phoning home all the time. trouble will be figuring out which one is doing it. I turn my phone on airplane mode and do no disturb at night. even before that I wasn't having and heat issues and there's even a thread about how little this device heats up while charging. I don't ever feel any heat from it.

That doesn't sound right, these phones run the coolest I have ever experienced and I was keeping my first Note 8 on wireless all day in the office

That's what I don't get. And it doesn't happen every night, just once in a while

Its not the best solution, please try factory resetting the phone, dont install any apps and try the wireless charging and review the outcome. Try a different wireless charger. Maybe its a defective phone/ charger.

I had something like that happen on a Yotaphone and it was a radio app running amok in the background but the Note 8 should shut down something like that automatically, I would return the phone if possible for replacing or repair

Is your lock screen on during charging? If it is it could cause your phone to run hot. Even the screen saver will do that.

Phones don't shut apps down unless they need the space the app is taking. It's the hand that's holding the phone that's responsible for shutting down unused apps. (Back button shuts it off, Home button leaves it running.)

I was under the impression that the device manager feature in these would be sorting out apps automatically if they were acting unusual

I still have my old Nokia wireless chargers from my Windows Phone days... They work fine, not fast chargers but, on the side of my bed, it charges it to full.

It does not get hot. Maybe the fast wireless chargers making it hot ?

I ended up here because I'm having the same problem. Like you said, it's not all the time - it only happens now and then.

I turn my phone completely off when I go to bed, so it's not any apps running that are the culprit. But, it is food-for-thought for those who don't turn their phone off, possibly.

It's been quite a while since it had done it and then BAM! This morning I picked up my phone and it was hot enough to semi-burn my hand.

It's just really frustrating when there's no rhyme or reason to it, and when you pick it up it's almost too hot for you to handle. There are no viable solutions so far.
I'm not going to do a hard reset on my phone unless it's absolutely a must. If that is what would fix the issue I would, but I don't think it would make one ounce of difference. This is intermittent, and the phone is off when it's happening.

I hope a solution that works comes about soon.

Just curious if you have a case while charging and if it's thick?? Just tossing an idea if maybe you have a thick case causing a weak link to the charging coil causing the pad to work harder to charge generating more heat.

If you are using a case, I'd be curious to know how it charges with no case.

I disable fast charging on mine and have a NeoHybrid case an no problems with heat when charging so you're issue definitely does not sound normal.

I use my wireless charger at work. And while I generally don't leave it on after it gets near 100%, it does get a bit warm.

One thing I did notice, the red 'charging' light will remain on after it gets to 100%. Not sure how long, but am leaving it on now and observing. Wondering if this might be an issue with heat.

Sounds like the OP has a problem. My 8 runs and charges very cool, plugged in or wireless. Hope the OP finds a solution

Mine is on the charger (original fast charger) overnight and usually sits on the wireless charging stand during the day (USB computer connection) and it never gets hot not even a little warm, only have a very slim rubber case on it
