Wireless Charging Question

Apologies if this is covered elsewhere, but I could not find an answer.

Is it possible to wirelessly charge the Maxx and keep the power off? Or will the phone turn on when placed on the Qi base regardless?

I believe it has to be on from memory as its just not the coil which charges it. A small chip in the receiver devices 'talks' to the chip inside the chip charger. I believe for this talking to occur which grants the charge, your phone has to be on. Least I believe so.
