I've an HTC Thunderbolt and ive been able to root, load roms, wireless tether etc no problem. So my buddy has a Droid X and wants to be able to use wireless tether, so i say no problem. I was able to root using the one click root method on the sticky. I downloaded open garden and i get stuck at the verizon provisioning page for wireless tethering/activate hotspot. Now ive been doing reading and understand that verizon has found a way to block it on the X. I've tried a few different things (freezing the services ppl say is associated with verizon being able to block it) and read up on some ways you can patch it to make it work. Is there a guide or link anywhere that addresses this specific issue? I saw a guide that used a program called "droid 2 bootstrapper". it looks like it just takes you into CWM. can i just install CWM onto the droix x, boot into recovery and flash that way or do i HAVE to use the bootstrapper program? I know my way around the thunderbolt but the X is completely new to me...

one more thing... could i just bypass all of this if i installed a custom rom like Liquid? ive that on my thunderbolt and it works great.

Try doing a Google search for wugs wireless tether patch. That should fix you up. Good luck.

Look for Droidmodderx web site. Has the files and video to show you how to instal.

I have a non-rooted X, and Quick WiFi HotSpot Lite and TetherShortCutWidget does the trick for me.

The liberty ROM allows you to tether the Droid x..

Can you confirm the wireless tether still works? Like I said this isn't my phone so I'm basically going to set him up with liberty and let him enjoy his "new" phone. That also means that if something goes wrong he is gonna look to me for technical support and I want to minimize it. He isn't a total noob, but is new to all this business in general. I was doing to reading online and saw some people saying its not working for them with liberty... but I couldn't figure out which one they were using. I'm just going to get the liberty 3 I think and go for it. Make a nandroid backup in case something doesn't work out he can go back to his stock bloated rooted rig he has now. Thanks for everyone's help with this in advance. This is why android rocks the house!
