Wish this phone was not by Samsung!

If this phone was not a Nexus, I would not even be considering it since it is by Samsung. I have owned 2 phones by Samsung (both Android) and they both were a joke. Samsung took forever on updates and the performance and build quality was poor. Hoping the Prime is in a different league...If not the Rezound will be coming my way.

Samsung isn't pushing the updates for this phone. I've also heard that the build quality feels better than usual for Samsung.

I could not disagree more. Although beauty is in the eye of the beholder, my take is this:
1st. My Samsung phones have all been excellent, i760, Omnia, Fascinate.
2nd. Except for the i760, I have not waited for updates from Verizon. IMHO, VZW was the main delay on updates, not Samsung. I rooted, rom'd both the Omnia and the Fascinate. Performance has been excellent. While the i760 was a bit bulky the slim, trim Omnia and Fascinate have been very nice. Build quality was not that of a Sherman Tank but I appreciated the slimness of the phones.
3rd. This will be a Nexus phone and updates should be very timely.
4th. On this we agree, if VZW Nexus majorly disappoints then the Rezound looks like the winner.

Having owned the Nexus S, i cant really agree with you. I did not like the fact that the plastic was glossy, as that just led to scratches, but the Galaxy Nexus seems to have that remedied. Ive also owned an Htc Incredible and Nexus One, both by Htc. Im very careful with my phones but ill have to to admit ive dropped all three. The Nexus S took the force of the drop due to the flexible plastic and i ended up with no damage. The Nexus One had chipped paint all over and due to heavier materials, took more of a beating.

Its really subjective i suppose, but people come on here all the time praising build quality from Motorola and Htc and i feel, lately at least, that those manufacturers have been making bulky phones with a lot of creeks and a higher damage percentage due to paint and weight. Id much rather use an all plastic phone with a little bit of give to it as i live a pretty adventurous lifestyle.

Like i said thats all me though, everyone has different needs and aesthetic and or feel requirements. I think the Galaxy Nexus balances all of these worlds into one as far as ive seen.

Name me an oem that has better processors than samsung's Exynos. There aren't any. And name me an oem that has better screen technology than samsung's Super Amoled. There aren't any. And name me an oem that is more developer friendly. There aren't any. In fact, other oems aren't even dev friendly at all with their locked bootloaders. Samsung's hardware (not build quality, two different things completely) is unparalleled. Their UI (touchwiz) sucks, I'll give you that. But then again, whose doesn't? All skins lessen performance. I couldn't disagree more. Do some research. Why do you think Google chose them 2 years in a row?

meh

Alright, and we would care why exactly...............?

I agree with you 110% no OEM can come close to Samsung right now. Samsung has sold the most phones out of any OEM this year and it's for a good reason. Not to mention all the updates on this device will be pushed out by Google and Samsung/Verizon will have NOTHING to do with it. So all his points in the OP are just BS. If you don't like Samsung then it's simple, just don't buy the phone. No need to start a thread in this sub forum that's dedicated to people who WANT it and like it a lot. I swear people will cry about a device no matter what it is...... it's crazy

This is not a valid complaint for a Nexus phone.

Sounds like all your issues with Samsung are software related. Considering Samsung has virtually no part in the software, you shouldn't worry.

Sent from my HTC Mecha

Google the Samsung vs iPhone drop test. Being a little flimsy makes for good shock absorption vs shattering to bits on a single drop.

You clearly never used an sgs2 then if you say performance is bad. Plus just because it is plastic doesn't mean build quality isn't. Plus on updates, carriers slow them down. Look at the international versions of samsung models they are some of the first to be updated. People that think the US is the only place make me laugh. Do a little research first.

So this person thinks Samsung sucks and doesn't get the difference between a Nexus vs a non Nexus device in regards to software updates. Let him buy whatever.

We should stop feeding this thread with responses so it can go away.

The i760 is still my favorite phone in terms of form factor and ergonomics. Samsung can design phones very well but took a while to hit their stride with Android. I think HTC has better form factor, ie, minimal bezel. I don't mind a phone being a little thicker if the width and height do not exceed the size of the screen by too much. Although I would have preferred an HTC design, I'm sure this will be a great phone.

Thanks, Robrecht

I had one of those - loved the screen! Interesting design concept too...

The only Samsung phone I've owned are a old flip phone and the Nexus S. If the G-Nex is any thing like the Nexus S - which I believe it will be and then some - you won't be disappointed.

Boy I stirred the pot around here a little bit! I TOTALLY understand what Nexus is all about and that's why I plan on getting one. I had a Fascinate (rooted) and Samsung took forever with the updates and I was honestly not a fan of its performance. The Xperia Play I had a few months back smoked the Fascinate in performance. Despite what you guys think, I am still not a Samsung fan - hoping this phone can change my mind...
