Wonky HTC Sense

I got my Droid Incredible almost a month ago. Very happy with it so far but today it started acting weird. Whenever I quit an app and return to the home pages it goes to a HTC screen, then has to take a second to load the page. I never had to do that before and it's pretty annoying to wait the couple seconds over and over again.

Has anyone else had this problem, or have an idea for a solution?

I should add that sometimes when making the switch from a program back to Sense I get the error message "The application HTC Sense (process com.htc.launcer) has stopped unexpectedly. etc" Then I have to force close, although everything seems the same.

Maybe a reboot will fix it.

If you installed any apps just before the problem started, remove them and see if that fixes it.

Otherwise, the good old drastic factory reset :(

For me it was an app that seemed to be causing it (was one of the task managers). Would occasionally appear to cause sense to restart (if that's what HTC screen indicates). Loved the app, but it was driving me nuts. Uninstalled and it stopped resetting sense.

Handcent SMS has been known to do this from time to time... My thoughts would be figure out what apps you installed around the time the problem started happening...

yeah I tried a reboot and deleted the apps I had downloaded right before the problem (the astro file manager app and another system manager app) but hasn't seemed to help. I actually get the force quit anytime I remove an app or use the back button in applications manager that takes me back to the applications management options. Still seems to remove the program though.

I'll try a couple more things before going for the factory reset. Does anyone know what happens to the apps I purchased if I do the reset? Does the Android remember those so I can reinstall them for free or do I lose them?

They are attached to your account. You can redownload them all.

Are you running a task manager/killer?

I wasn't running a task killer, but I did check my running applications. I just ended up doing the hard reset and re-dowloading some apps. Works fine now, I'll just have to keep an eye on apps I re-ad.

I'm in the same boat that's why I asked about the task killer. I thought that was the problem but haven't run one since about the weekend after the release. I have been trying to troubleshoot this along with tier 2 VZW tech support and no luck. This is my second Incredible as they sent me a refurbished one & it's still doing the same thing. They have no other reports of this so I'm actually happy to know you're having issues too. Their only offer is speaking to HTC or sending me a refurbished MotoDroid. I've not spent any time looking into the new X but think that is more fair. However, I'd much rather have a proper working Incredible. Not only does Sense restart ion me but some apps just quit too w/o any FC dialog box. Weird stuff!

Let's keep in touch. I'm going to call them again now but you can e-mail me at my username via gmail if you'd like (not typing out my address because of bots but I'm sure you can figure it out).

Not to bust your bubble or rain on any parades. But it won't be. It's something you have installed on the phone, especially if the first phone did it, then the second one did it etc. I would suggest with the new one add one app at a time till it starts doing it then remove the app. If Sense is force closing it more than likely is either a low level app like an SMS app, live wallpaper, or widget.

Yeah, troubleshooting is kind of my thing. It's happened on both phones after a wipe with just e-mail setup. Really odd...I was happy to see someone else with the same problem because it's so odd.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

Oh wow it was doing this with a fresh install. Sounds weird, good luck with the new one.

Yeah, I know. Super strange. Thanks for your trying to help though, much appreciated. At least when I was on the phone I got to order the 32GB sdcard for $75. =)
