Hi,

I just got my google pixel 5. Coming from a Blackberry 2LE. How do I setup the work profile on the pixel 5? Also - how do I access it? Need to do this for work to setup intune, outlook, etc... Kinda a pain, but my firm requires it.

Work profile was integrated into regular profile on BB. Orange briefcases on "work profile" apps.

Any other related tips and tricks are welcome.

Tom

well, hello there, congratulations on your new pixel 5!! I can't wait to get mine in about 2 and 1/2 weeks myself! I have a work profile on my Pixel 3 XL currently. In order to set up the work profile on your new phone, it's highly recommended to sync up your Gmail application with your work email just go to settings, set up new email account, and choose Outlook exchange. Check out my screenshots. Unfortunately I will for warn you that this will use up a little bit more battery than normal, but if your firm requires it then not much you can do about unfortunately... I initially set my work profile up on my Pixel 3 XL. However, My work doesn't require so I'll just be accessing all my work information from the web. I hope this helps you out a little bit! Once you successfully set up your exchange Outlook account, your phone first of all might ask you for the server address. After it's all synced up successfully, it'll ask you to download the work apps from the Google Play store. After it's all said and done, you'll start to see your calendar filter through including your contacts. However, unfortunately, the calendar is syncing through Google calendar for Microsoft Outlook isn't the greatest. It's okay. You could also go the route of downloading the Microsoft Outlook app from the Play store, but I'm not entirely sure that that puts the full work profile on your phone. Also, when all is said and done, you will see in your app draw when you swipe up on your home screen, two different app categories: personal, and work. The work profile will always be separate from the personal profile, and it'll be designated by a little blue suitcase in the bottom right hand corner of all the application icons.

Welcome to Android Central! Looks like Eric gave a thorough answer to help you out! I hope you enjoy yourself around the forums, and that you are liking your new Pixel 5! Welcome to the world of Pixel!

Good information. I learned something new today. After all these years using Android I didn't know it would actually create two separate profiles in the app drawer. Good to know.

thanks for the quick response. I'm still a little confused. First, I am not permitted to link my work email to anything or to access in any manner other than through outlook (via intune and on a work profile). I apologize if I missed this in the above post.....but what do I do to activate the work profile? Do I need to do anything special to access these work profile apps? My firm has informed me they have some sort of work profile app store, which contains the only apps I may put on this profile.

Thx,
Tom

Did they tell you which app to download to get started? When my company gave me a phone years ago, they required us to use Touchdown and Mobile@Work. They paid for the apps. But those apps allowed us to access our company network and allowed IT remote access to the phones.

Once I successfully synced my work profile up to my phone, within my work profile, there's a "work" version of my Play store which allows me to download work related apps which I need. I hope that helps you out a little bit.

I can see how that would work, based on your description and screenshots. Makes sense. But the OP stated that he is not allowed to access work email through just any app, and in the way you described. Google's help page for Work Profile setup says that "your IT personnel will provide you with the app to establish your work profile...." or something like that. In the OP's case, if he cannot access his work mail using the instructions you provided because his company doesn't allow it, I would assume the company IT needs to provide some guidance as to what app / apps they allow to establish the secure connection to the company network?

Yes correct. You're right. I mean in that case his IT department might have to especially install a work app on his phone versus going through the Gmail syncing app itself on the phone.yeah it can get very weird and confusing and annoying all at once unfortunately.

You should talk to your I.T department because every company does things a little differently.

Thanks for the responses everybody. When I added intune, it automatically added the work profile. Problem solved. Everything is up and running. Liking the pixel so far
