AT&T Galaxy S8 Work WIFI and personal cell phone

I have a Samsung S8+ and when I'm in the office, I hook to the internal WiFi to listen to Pandora or play Netflix in the background. This helps with not sucking up all my data.

Since I am logging into the network, is my employer able to see everything else going on in my phone? I log in with my normal employee user name and password, if that matters any.

And I ask only because I have a lot of apps on my phone that while I am not on them, they always seem to be "on" anyway, like Facebook, Chase mobile app, Yahoo mail app, the internet app, etc. I don't want my employer to think I'm on these apps all day, when all I truly have running is Pandora or Netflix.

Also, if those apps are running in the background, can my employer look into them? For example, can they get into my Yahoo mail and start reading emails, or see what I post on Facebook?

Welcome to Android Central. I would suggest you talk with your employer's IS&T department as what you're doing may be in violation of their policies. Security issues aside, your employer may not allow private use of the wifi system they provide for roaming the internet. For the other questions, they will know which sites you have visited, what you did there and for how long.

Old days, personal phone calls had to be limited.

Facebook is a resource hog, knows all about you, and probably tons of notifications (distractions).

If you don't use your phone for work related activities, what are other people doing?

So if I check my Facebook on lunch and comment on a friend's post and then close the app, but it still stays open in the background, you're saying they will know exactly what I typed?

I'm not actually on Facebook or these other apps though, unless I'm at lunch. And I use my work issued laptop for my work activities. I guess I don't understand your last question - my apologies.

As a member (retired) of the IS&T department for a very secure DOE installation we told all users to assume anything they did online was viewable. Whether that applies to your situation, I wouldn't know.

So if I go to an online forum, like this one, and make a post that says "I hate peaches", my employer can see that I wrote "I hate peaches " (just an example)

It really depends on your IT teams policy. Since you're logging in with your credentials anything you visit can be viewed... as for the content itself? Usually most employers don't go that far but they could see you going on Facebook and whatnot.

Just go by the general rule of thumb... If you have to question it -- don't do it on the work network.

Thank you - I was more concerned because these apps often stay on in the background, even after I close them out and I didn't want my employer thinking I'm on Facebook all day and I'm definitely concerned when my bank app stays open.
