there is a test kernel out right now (that is quite stable imo) that uses the capacitive button's backlights as a notification.

works pretty nicely i think.

But anyways not to derail the thread. 2.2 will do great things for the Fascinate.

I just hope the update will go smoothly. Seems like the only people who had 2.2 update issues/crashes are people with Motorolas. My Droid broke because it didn't install the 2.2 update properly.. so I'm slightly scared my update won't work on my Fascinate but I hear it usually goes fine so, holding my breath! I can't wait for Froyo... minus losing ShootMe.

all the galaxy s phones seemed to have gotten root pretty quick (some even before release!)

Yeah the Fascinate will be I think the best android phone on Verizon when it gets 2.2. I switch to the Droid X a week ago and I am happy with that decision as it fits my needs better then the Fascinate. At the moment they are both equal. Until Fascinate get 2.2.....

I have used both devices and they are very similar, As far as the Incredible goes I'm not a fan of that optical navigation sensor it uses and the battery life was not as good as the Fascinate. Also the screen I think is much nicer on the Fascinate. I believe that they both have the same processor in them but the SF seems to be faster but that just might be me.

i know this is an old thread but just in case you have yet to decide: the fascinate has a completely different and way better processor than the incredible.

the incredible has the gay snapdragon processor and the new ones dont even have an amoled display. the new displays may have better battery though.

the fascinate has the dope ass hummingbird processor. superamoled display and kick ass everything it kicks ass like a dope motha****a brrrrrrrrrr

I'm glad I came accross this thread today As some of have seen me a bit here & there, I'm also thinking of ditching my berry too. I went to a Vzw store this morn for 2-1/2hrsm, and well, I believe my mind is pretty much made up as well. I looked at the Sf, the Moto Pro & the Droid2 (they didn't have the white global-but D2 I fig is the same os etc.) Well, I spent 2hrs on the SF! I was surely impressed with the VERY responsive touch screen, and the crisp 'clear' view of the screen itself. The 5mp cam was very nice-took great pix as well. I basically did everything I would need with my bb, the only thing that I found a bit trying, was the copy text (select text) to paste into another field. Once I selected the option to copy an address off google, it was hard to get all of what I needed & I couldn't find the dam zoom to enlarge the text on the screen-prob something so simple that I overlooked I'm sure. Anywhoo, back on track-i then spent about 15mins ea with the D2 & the Pro. I liked the D2 except for the keypad-it was a little weird to me the way the key kind of 'sunk-in'. The Pro was also very nice, but those small-slanted keys were kinda a PITA honestly, and the touch screen was a little finicky at certain selections. Soooooo--my decision was also made to go with the Fascinate! I understand that 2.2 Froyo is due to update for it soon, so I've opted to put this on my wishlist for Santa this year, & hopefully by then-2.2 wil be on there-if not-its all good-i still loved the feel, look & functions of the device! Now I will be counting the days till I put my 8330 to retire! But, I'm sure I'll still go thru withdrawls! LOL

I didn't realize until tonight that this thread was still going. So just to update...yes, I did decide on the Fascinate and I LOVE it! There are a few...read VERY few things I kind of miss from my Blackberry, but nothing worthwhile even mentioning. Its SO nice to not have to wait while that damn blackberry updates every few moments. Rockin' screen, fast processory, and I'm really digging Swype! It was awkward at first, but now that I've made myself use it, I LOVE it!

Can't wait for 2.2!!
