Would DeX work with any cheap 4K 60 Hz adapter?

I've never been a fan of dex stations that samsung sold for $99 but now that the Note 9 seems to work with only a regular cable, has anyone tried a cheap HDMI to usb c adapter and activated Samsung Dex? There are some on eBay for as low as $7 that are 4K and 60Hz but not sure if it has to be the genuine cable from samsung

I reckon any cable that's certified properly would do the job. (That is, certified as meeting a hdmi cable standard)

I'm not sure about a cable, but I did purchase this adapter and it works great for DeX mode. I have the original DeX Station but like this much better. It's much less expensive and case friendly.
