im just thinking to the future, as im under contract till feb. i still love my note 2, but knowing i may never be able to root and unlock another samsung device is making me wonder whether i should move to another device, go for the note 4, or keep my rooted and unlocked note 2. what are all of you planning to do when your contracts are up later this year and early next?

I won't be able to say until the Note 4 comes out.
I know the odds of the bootloader being cracked are very low, but root will most likely be gained.

At least with root I can use titanium backup, busybox, and xposed mods.
There could also be a safestrap method for ROMs.

I?ll most likely get another Samsung in the Note 4 (unless they do something drastic like not having a user-replaceable battery ). Figure there will be root access which is all I need (for AdAway, root features of MyBackup Pro, and make any system mods if needed).

Yes looking forward to this upcoming February when I'll get the Note 4 or the Note 5 if it's out.

I'm stuck getting notes from now on. I'm so spoiled from using the s pen and multi window on a regular basis that I can't imagine without it. A good problem to have since the note phones have always been top notch.

Absolutely NOT.

I had 3 Galaxy Note 2 phones(two Verizon and one int'l unlocked).
I upgraded one of them to the Note 3. Biggest disappointment in
the last year or two because the Note 3 wasn't much of an "upgrade"
IMHO.

However, I will definitely looking into upgrading to the Galaxy Note 4
when it shows up in Verizon stores at the end of October.

Samsung has made its intentions very clear. They
will attempt to make rooting impossible(or as difficult
as humanly possible)

For 97.5% of the customers, this is not a problem.... :)

no, for what most would consider a minor issue..i need the red line under spelling errors. i had to root to get it. no more rooting new sammy phones on vzw so no more red underlining.

No way. Sick and tired of Samsung's bloat and TouchWiz skin. Would love a Note device with a more stock Android experience but still include S-Note app.

Same here. It's still a pleasure to use a year and half later. I plan to keep it indefinitely even after getting a new phone at some point instead of retiring it like I've done with past devices. :)

I won't say "No" or "Never," but I will say highly unlikely.

Samsung makes very good hardware, and no mistake. But their software--what they do to Android... gag

Bloated, bug-ridden, prone to security issues. No thanks. My wife and I love our Galaxy Tab 2s, but mine would've been gone, by now, had it not been for CyanogenMod. Samsung wasn't even under consideration when we went to smartphones.

Thinking upon it... I think only one person I know IRL is currently using a Samsung smartphone. Certainly nobody who's heeded my recommendations is.

Time for a change for me. I like Samsung, but want something different. Possibly the LG g3 for me

Look forward to the Note 4. As an artist it's really the only smartphone series that truly interests me with its Wacom digitizer/chip and sPen features. Was hoping to get the Note 3, but it didn't seem like much of an upgrade. Have the Galaxy Note 2, but hope to sell it (never rooted, mint) to put that towards getting it likely off contract. Will be VERY disappointed if they force some NSA fingerprint reader, retina scan, DNA or ***** collector or whatever other invasive ridiculous control freak police state crap on it. Can't believe people were ok with getting the S5 with it, but if it can be covered I guess not a big deal. If they have a fingerprint reader I will get a button to cover it, a case and whatever else I can to disable functionality but hope nothing like that is on there. But yea, short answer is yes I plan on getting a Samsung.
