DX probably is the best selling droid phone in Q3 2010. I see about 10% DX users coming from iPhone, mostly from BB. So I'd ask the question the other way around: Would you switch to iPhone if it is available at VZW today?

Nope.

1) Screen size... I love my big screen
2) Apps... Apple may have a LOT more apps than Android but I'd argue that Android has more "quality" apps. Oh yea... and our apps are cheaper too.
3) Apple is locked down, with my DX I can change just about anything I want.

I will say though that the iPhone OS, along with OSX is super smooth. Android will get the smoothness nailed down eventually.

There's no way I would go back to the iPhone. While I loved the 3g for the two years I had it, I became more and more concerned with Steve Jobs antics in exercising absolute control over content, distribution and design, in addition to my frustrations with AT&T. Also, Android offers much more in the way of configuration choices, and the availability of Widgets and stacked notifications are superior to the iPhone.

I'm grateful that the iPhone exists, and believe the competition between and Android and iPhone is our best friend, as consumers. It will continue to drive cellular and phone technology forward at a breakneck pace, while it will continue to drive prices down.

I have never owned an apple product and dont think I ever will, my daughter just bought an ipod touch though I tried to talk her out of it. I have no idea where this hate for apple even comes from?

I like to be able to use SD card for flash drive @ times. Need spare battery for long camping trips. - These are just 2 reasons why I couldn't use the iphone.

I wouldn't for several reasons.

1. ITunes. I have a Zune with Zune Pass. Probably less then 10% of my collection I own.

2. Apple. It's never been a company I have liked or trusted, and I have a big issue with most people who I meet that use their products.

3. Screen Size. Touch is the way to go, but I don't trust touch screens. That's why I got the Storm. Bigger screen lessons my worries about a normal touch screen.

4. OS. Never been a big fan of the Iphone OS. It gives people a stable environment, but I am a PC tech geek type, I like flexibility even at the cost of stability.

5. The Package. Its a one size fits all, even if I liked it, its unlikely it would be my first pick, because if there was a better phone later 99% what I have done with the iPhone is lost. If I stick to or love Android I know a phone that fits me better is around the corner. With the iPhone I have to like each version of the single phone Apple releases. Even with RIM there is the oppotunity to play with form factors.

6. Customization. With every OS (cept maybe WP7) you get a pretty decent degree of customization of the interface without hacks. If you take Hacks into consideration the Iphone is blown even more out of the water.

7. Hackless software options. The Apple market is great and all but when they killed off the baby shaker I knew I was never going to buy an Iphone. Sideloading and OTA link installing became a must for me in my future phone. I am not going to sit around either afraid to Jailbreak because of an update, or waiting for a jailbreak on a new OS just to have a choice on what software I can install on my phone.

Man at first I wanted an Iphone bad. Since my DX I wouldn't touch an Iphone. the Droid X "DOES" me just fine.

No hate for Apple or it's CEO here.
When it comes filling MY NEEDS, the iPhone simply FAILS on a number of points whereas the Andriod based phones DO NOT.

Nuff said. :D

Can't go wrong with Android or iPhone but I prefer my X to the iPhone because of the 4.3" screen and Google Navigator. I don't have a standalone GPS and having one as good as GN on my phone is one of the reasons Android is my favorite mobile OS, especially since it's free.

I used to think I wanted an iPhone if it came to Verizon, but since I bought my Eris and now my X, that is no longer the case. Android OS and the ability to make changes has changed my whole outlook. I also don't like all the control Apple has over it's product. Seems like Jobs has gone over the edge concerning his products, and secretly, I think he knows his days of having the best out there is over.

Mine comes from Steve Jobs... I like apple products.. I really do. But my issue is and will always be that I WILL NOT support the ecosystem that he has created. I do not want someone tell me I can't do something then the same people turn around and give it to me a year+ later and call it their innovative products. I also do not like it that he pushed the engy's at apple to make the phone when they knew that the antenna design would be an issue. Then once it fell apart, he stayed quite for over a month and came out whining like a child that everyone else had the same issues with their respective phones. In reality no one could replicate it. He then posted vids on youtube of them showing all the phones doing it in the privacy of his camera. Never did he do it live in a real world setting. He called out BB, Android, etc... STEVE...suck it up and own up to your mistakes... people will appreciate that. They won't appreciate you acting like a child and trying to bring others down with you.

This, and many other reasons is why I won't support anything apple until Jobs is gone from the company...

End of rant....

sorry...

If Motorola does something I don't like, I can always move to HTC or Samsung or whoever else is out there and most of my accessories and nearly all of my apps will work (generic case, USB power, I avoid docks and extended batteries for that reason).

Apple does something I don't like (well, that's already happened) and I'm out all my apps, all my proprietary accessories, pretty much I start over.

Android is so much more flexible in allowing us to switch hardware vendors with little to no pain while Apple you're locked in to one company for hardware, software AND apps.

I wouldn't have even left my Storm for an iPhone, but there's no way I'd consider an iPhone when I have a DX, (let's not even talk about the even sweeter hawtness in Android phones coming in the next several months). iOS devices with their walled-garden ecosystem feel like a toy or an appliance to me, when what I want is a mobile computing platform.

I'm coming from an iPhone. I was on the fence at first when I got the Droid X. Been using the DX now for a few weeks. Decided to sit down and play with my iPhone for a few hours since I hadn't touched it since I got the DX. I don't think there is anyway I could go back to the iPhone now. It's almost boring!
