WoW I Didn't Know This Thunderbolt Fact Either..

i don't really care what it's made out off but i do know that after dropping my phone about 4ft high on a tile floor, i didn't get a single scratch, crack, dent, nothing at all. The battery, battery door, and the remainder of the phone scattered all in different directions when it hit the floor. I've looked and looked and it looks as good as when i first got the phone :) good build right there

Sorry, I just can't get past the fact that when you hold your Thunderbolt you really can't tell that it's plastic. Are you messing with us, or do you really believe you're holding a solid piece of aluminum?

Did you read the write up in the link I posted? Don't blame me.

I know, I read your source. But.... I guess it's just that when my first-hand observations conflict with what I'm told, I tend to go with what I can observe and feel for myself over what someone is telling me. And, based on the way the write up was worded, it seems unlikely to me that the author had actually spent any time with the device... seemed more like a synopsis of the phone's features that wouldn't have required any hands-on time.

Anyway, was not trying to be mean. Just wasn't sure where you were coming from.

I agree, the device is noticeably solid. My only gripe is with the creaking on my battery door(s), which ranges from slight (on the stock battery door) to egregious (on the OEM extended battery door).

Everyone here has it all wrong... the Thunderbolt has no body, either aluminum or plastic... Neither could hold it! It is a immense exchange of electrons that flash cooks the air at temperatures hotter than our sun so fast it breaks the sound barrier, resulting in a flash of light and a loud noise. Could aluminum *really* do any better than plastic there? I think not...
