Pretty sure I am going to have to return it. Which is a bummer as it was a gift for my daughter... primarialy so she could use it to video chat with her best friend who is about move to Hawaii :(

  • The touch screen response is poor, and at times completely non-responsive
  • The OS seems to randomly freeze as well.
  • The cameras do not work for Skype.
  • Google talk chat is messed up - the video is sideways
  • I can not move apps to the SD card.
  • The Launcher does not support portrait mode - when I switched to one that did, the lag was awful - not really a big deal, but still.
  • And I am losing WiFi often - I am not ready to blame that on the device at this point though.

But what is really killing me is the touchscreen problems - the power button works, I can get to the unlock screen, then nothing. It has happened at least a dozen times in the few hours that I have owned it.

There is no way to pull the battery or anything either, so there is a lot of hope and prayer when touch screen gives up.

At this point I just want to see if there is a way to make Skype work so I can consider an exchange, and just write mine off as a defective unit... but I am not so sure at this point.:(

I received my A1 about 2 weeks ago directly from Lenovo. Ditto on the loss of WiFi connection on a routine pattern. I get a full signal which loads a page quickly, within 5 seconds, the signal strength begins dropping until it is gone. Then, it begins to cycle back - so I am constantly using refresh. I like using it as a media player, and the Kindle app works fine as a reader.

I just received a system update this evening...took forever, as I had to keep restarting the download due to the WiFi dropouts. Maybe this update will help.

The update messages were very poor translations

Now on Version 2.3.4, Kernel 2.6.35.7 (root@unbuntool#13)

Re: <<?The touch screen response is poor, and at times completely non-responsive>>

I have had my A1 for just a few days and have a similar issue with my touchsceen. It seems to be some type capacitance issue because it only happens when holding the A1 in one hand while operating it with the other hand. If I set it on the desk it operates perfectly.

I talked with Lenovo support this morning and they say it is defective so I plan to have it replaced since I purchased it from Lenovo. Before I do that I would like to know if this is a common problem as I have heard in the past that some devices are more susceptible to this type of problem.

Thanks...

Update:

Found a way to recalibrate touch in another forum. This seems to have solved my problem. I may have messed up calibration by using a "hard" touch. Will update again if it reoccurs. Link and text for procedure follows:

After messing with the A1 most of the day I finally figured out the fix. Turned it off, pressed the power button until the unit vibrated, held the volume up button until it entered it's Android System Recovery mode. There it was "Touch Calibration" selected it using the volume buttons to toggle down and the power button to select. A few moments later and all is good with my A1. Now I don't feel the urge to return it as much.

I received mine, Christmas gift for my daughter, two week ago and it seems to be running fine. A little more sluggish than I'm used to as a Xoom owner, but with a little tweaking I'm sure I can work around it.

I've had my A1 since late November.

I cannot get an SD card to mount, but I have not tried shoving it in with a stick as has been suggested on the Lenovo company forum.
Mine would not keep a wifi connection for longer than a minute or so, until I changed routers from Belkin to Netgear Rangemax Dual Band Wireless-n Gigabit Router.

I do not use it now, I switched to Evo View with Scribe for drawing & Asus Eee Transformer for everything else.

My wife uses it to read on Kindle, she loves it, since she gets access to the market.
