I feel like this probably isn't the best place to put this, and there wasn't much option. I just know that a bunch of Android enthusiasts hang around here, and therefore a lot of Open Source fans will also be here.
I'm writing my final English paper for the semester on why Open Source should be the standard over commercial Software. It's an argumentative research paper, and I'm on the side of Open Source. It could essentially boil down to OpenOffice vs. Microsoft Office if you DON'T know what I'm talking about.
I'm having trouble finding sources that compliment what I want to say on our schools database, and am taking the leap of faith on to the actual internet. I plan to look at Ooo and Ubuntu for reference and hopefully things to put into my paper. Can anyone point me in the right direction maybe, so that way I have more confidence in picking sources from non-confirmed sources off the internet? Other than those two, any thing else? Or any other suggestions are welcome as well
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Here's what I plan on covering:
- Price.
- General Quality and Functionality of the finished product.
--- Reliable, and quick fixes to any issues that do arise.
----- Plan on specifically pointing out the Android Dev community.
- Pride in the work.
- Honor among peers.
- Developments that originally came from Open Source projects which have since been made commercial.
- Anti-Virus, Word Processing, General Security, and Phone Software will all be mentioned.
What I'm trying to stay away from:
- A debate on free/paid music and mp3's
- A debate on free/paid videos and movies.
- Any other form of what is widely considered unimportant to the overall functionality of computers (videos games, for example).
---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
If you have any tips, please help me out!
Thanks!
