I'm eligible for an upgrade and my NE2 expires in a couple weeks. I had been secretly hoping that the Galaxy S2 would be available before my NE2 expired, but that's not looking promising. So I think I may need to just decide between the X2 and the DInc2
I am currently using a droid eris. Nice phone, but enough quirks to tempt me to throw it some days. Plus it doesn't have enough internal storage for me to have very many apps. I use my phone mostly for texting and apps and impromptu photos. And my calendar. I do some surfing, but there's no reason to do it on my phone when I can walk to my computer 15 feet away and have a regular keyboard and full screen. Maybe the browsing experience will be more enjoyable on a newer phone though? I have also considered the 4G phones, but I don't think I'd appreciate the speed enough to justify the higher price or the battery life irritations.
I have smallish hands, even for a woman. So I am a bit concerned that the X2 will be awkward for me to handle, especially one I put any sort of case on it. Right now, I can operate the Eris one-handed which is definitely more convenient at times (no, not driving!). But I suspect I may have to give up that habit for any of the newer phones. I have spent quite a bit of time in VZW stores playing with the phones. It's really hard to get a good sense of how they feel in your hand when they have the huge clunky tie-down attached to the back and the cord pulling. I really can't tell very well how well my hand fits around the X2 and how secure it feels one-handed.
My thoughts on the phones:
DInc2 --smaller, so may fit my hand better. Only single core, but it wins in the storage and memory department. I don't care about the front camera at all. Global could be handy if I ever left the country, but not something I do often enough to be a deal maker. I've been told mixed things about it by in-store personnel. Some have told me it's not really much of an upgrade from my Eris, but I find that hard to believe. The people in the DInc2 forum seem to love it.
X2: better screen resolution, dual core. I looked at it next to the samsung charge and the x2 screen was way brighter. I even checked the charge's setting and it was at full brightness. I'm not sure how I feel about the hardware buttons. In theory, I like the idea better. But when I play with the phone in the store, they seem stiff and hard to press with my thumb if I'm holding the phone in my hand. Upside is I won't as likely have accidental button pushes that bring up the search bar or whatever. But I LOVE the feel of the virtual keyboard on the X2. I like the solid haptic feedback. I also like the unmissable strong vibrate. I often don't feel my eris vibrating in my pocket.
So I'd love some feedback from some that have had both the DInc2 and the X2. Are there any distinguishing features that I'm missing? Is there a noticeable difference with the dual-core on the X2 compared the the DInc2? What kind of uses will make the dual-core more noticeable?
Thanks!
