Xiaomi Mi Max 2 - Cannot fix bootloop issue

Hi Guys, I have a Xiaomi Mi Max 2 which I bought from the internet. The first mistake I made was to update the phone using the updater app without first setting the developer's options like enabling usb debugging etc. The update went through but after 1/2 hr it suddenly frozed up and crashed. When it restarted, it was stuck at the Android logo and reverted back to startup again.

I tried flashing the phone with all the available stock ROMs from the Xiaomi official website but after successful flashing, the phone is still bootlooping. I suspect the boot partitions have somehow been messed up and I would like to totally format the device, then reflash a stock ROM. Hopefully, that would get the phone working again.

I would like to seek help from anyone from Android Central who could advise on any software to totally format the phone. It is currently on Android 7.1.1.

Thks

The fact that your phone is in a bootloop shouldn't preclude it from booting in recovery mode, provided you know which controls to press, and you keep them pressed down long enough.

A bootloop is essentially the phone going through its booting process over and over again, which means that at some point, power is briefly cut off on the motherboard and RAM is purged. If you keep your fingers on the right controls (varies from one brand/model to the next), you should be able to boot in recovery mode at some point, even if it takes several attempts to do it.

So it seems my phone's bootlooping could be a hardware issue? I have no issues getting into recovery 3.0 but the data wiping option didn't help. I have also done that numerous times and after choosing "rebooting to system" it ended up bootlooping itself again.
