Should I get the Motorola XOOM Family Edition?
My limit to spend is $400, but I want a good Android tablet.
Thanks!:)

You can forget about any Xoom FE-specific accessories love (eg cases with built in stands, exact fit decent screen protectors, etc) because outside of specs, it's nothing like the original Xoom... and no Gorilla Glass.

Also the mic and speaker volume sucks, and we've yet to get Android 3.2 (although Motorola's promised us ICS sometime in the future). Android Central thinks so little of it that we don't even have our own forum thread...

Other than that, it's decent enough for being a sub-$400 Android tablet.

You can get 3g xoom for 199.99 on 2 year contract. Not sure if that was black Friday only, u should look into it.

OR,,,,,,

Wait for Asus Transformer Prime! Out in December.

Yeah, the whole case/accessories thing is what I am worried about. But, i have a $400 price cap, and the display on the FE is better.

And about the gorilla glass, I will get a screen protector (seen some online for the FE here) and God knows I will baby this thing and not slam it on tables! :p

I am also not worried about staying at 3.1 until 4.0, because there were no really new features/etc from 3.1 to 3.2

I just hope that this doesn't turn in to another instance of my Droid R2-D2, where I bought the smaller/less known version of a big device because of the cheaper price. The issues with this can be less support, hard to find stock .sbf, limited OTA updates, little known root methods, etc.

BUT this is really my only option unless somebody knows of a better or equal tablet for an even or lower price, and if somebody does, it will be thanks galore :)
P.S. The 10.1 in. screen is a MUST for me :)

*EDIT*
I found a 'case' that will fit my needs exactly here
I didn't really need a case, just something to protect it in a bookbag or something.

@roscko and I found a case exactly like the kind I would want, but it is light blue. I just don't think I could walk around with a light blue case on my tablet.

Can't you get the original transformer for that price? I would go that way instead of the FE Xoom. You can get a hundred bucks in time, I believe in you, that transformer prime is calling your name!

Xoom+Root = Perfect Match

I bought my Zoom FE last week. I was a little suspicious after reading mixed reviews, but I have to say that it has been wonderful.
There is an official case for it, which is only available in blue/black, but really I love the color scheme so I'm not complaining. The case has a folding cover which works as a stand, though I have found if I fold the cover behind the tablet it becomes very comfortable to hold in landscape mode (kind of like the appeal Sony has with the form factor of their "S").
Over all, I have no complaints and I would recommend it.

Winter, whats the case called and where did you get it from? I haven't been able to find one anywhere. Thanks in advance.

I think the case he's referring to is the case sold by Best Buy. I think only Best Buy sells that case.

i just got one as a christmas present, and i love it so far, but yea i need a case and its hard to find one online, motorola.com doesn't even have a case for it...looks like ill be getting the one from best buy

my question was that, does anyone have the invisible shield on their Xoom, and how do you like it? it seems like the invisible shield takes away from the touch responsiveness on some other tablets that i have seen, and so i haven't bought any screen protector for my Xoom FE yet.

I too bought the Xoom FE and I really like it. I had the Acer Iconia A100 before that and decided that I wanted the bigger screen and more memory, so I returned the Acer and got the Xoom FE for a total of $350 + tax. There are several screen protectors and cases out there that you can find, but that is about it unless you want to go for a bluetooth keyboard. Evern the speaker dock on the original Xoom is different, the USB and HDMI connectors are in the right place, but they facing the wrong direction.

Why would they make so many changes to the Xoom just so Best Buy could have an exclusive product?

BTW, I still like it even with it's accessory shortcomings.

Just scored a Xoom wifi on buy.com for $399.99...it's got the gorilla glass and 32GB of memory.

I love my Xoom wifi. Sign up for the Swype keyboard beta. With the keyboard set to small i can type with one thumb, it is a great data entry method.
