Xoom is powerful, iPad is a toy

Far from correct. If you take the time see the differences it has made and how it has changed how people go about things you'd change your tune. I would direct you to the "ipad: year one" video. Far from a "toy"

Agreed. Some of these people need to step away from fanboism and stop being irrational. I'm guessing they ignore the fact that pilots will be using iPads, the military, doctors, restaurants, corporations and NFL will be adopting it for playbooks. I guess that's all women and children.

While a report today came out about android OS has the most market share in the US BUT it also has a higher percentage of younger age groups when compared to Apple and Blackberry. Go figure.

My local hospital uses ipads, its done excellent things for kids with autism, schools use them...its a great tool and I just don't get the toy comparison.

the xoom is a great device as well though. But if my 7 year old, who is extremely bright, took on to it with no problems, could we classify it as a toy also?

I think that the problem with the I pad 2 is that it is merely a stepping stone to the I pad 3. It won't have LTE or HSPA+ capability. Not having 4G capability is limiting in the short run. The app situation will begin to balance itself out as more android tablets hit the market.

However for folks who merely want wifi capability, it is not a limiting choice.

Exactly. All these gadgets are really our "toys". Just like a billionaire will refer to his cars and/or motorcycles as "toys". These are all toys. Whether people want to admit it or not.

100% agree. Who REALLY needs these devices over their laptops. Most modern laptops are light enough and have good enough battery life to support a good amount time and you can do so much more.

I have a Xoom and I love it for its basic uses... Web browsing, mobiling gaming, quick email checking, or updating my calendar. It is perfect for those things, but would I give up my laptop? Absolutly not.... now when my Xoom or an iPad can play Crysis 2 then we will be in business :D

Back on point tho... the you can love or hate the iPad but you still have to admit, it started a MASSIVE trend. If the iPad never came out do you think that there would be a rush of tablets like there are now? Probably not. Personally I dislike the iPad, it is more of my dislike for Apple and their products in general but I will admit that without Apple, we may be without our modern touch screen phones, marketplaces, and even the extent of digital content available online.

So yes, the iPad is a toy but then again what expensive electronic isn't? I have a work laptop (IBM ThinkPad) and its not a toy, its a work horse but my desktop at home (Alienware Area-51) is not necessary... its my toy to play my computer games. So it comes to preference... if you like certain toys... buy whatever you like. Xoom or iPad either way if its your fancy don't let anyone try to persuade you otherwise, the device needs to please YOU... not someone else.

iPad is a toy as in weak as hell, not as powerful as the Xoom. Don't cry Fanboi and that garbage. I had the iPad since day 1 but they are not even close to being the same type of device.
Don't believe me? Go get a Xoom and see for yourself.

Happy Xooming!

uh huh. They aren't meant to be. Lol.

ROFL Maybe the "dueling operating systems" use lightsabers to fight each other to see who wins at running the iPad! :p

lolz

Point proven.

iPad "You can't be my father!", Xoom "I am your father, join me so we can rule the galaxy together! Ipad "NOOOOOO crys"

Happy Xooming!

They both can be toys or used for more. You guys are funny,:)

Again grown ups acting like kids. Users need to stop with the " In order for Android to win, Apple has to lose attitude." Its stupid. I'm not bias with a well made system, even tho it may have some flaws, or the company polices suck.

Yes, in my opinion Android is better overall, as its my choice for a phone, not so much a pad as of yet. Any owners loyal to one brand are sorely mistaken if they think their device is the end and be all of devices. Example: Lets take apps. When it comes to quality of apps, apple wins. No, I'm not talking numbers. Numbers don't mean nothing. I'm talking about the polish of the apps. If you take comparable apps, and compare them, the apple app is more polished and usually by a wide margin. Do I know why? No, but I will not deny something that I can clearly see with my own eyes that shows me the difference, and will not hate on one, just to feel like mine is better.

Example: I have a Ipad I wifi tether to my Dinc when I want a big internet screen when I'm standing in line. Also love the pdf and comic readers it has. The Elements app is awesome. Its a great tool. Regardless of superior specs it doesn't matter in real world performance, if the software isn't optimize to use it. At this time IOS is still a more optimize OS then Honeycomb, and runs smoother even on crappy specs.

Ergo...Android Is also great. Google Maps, Google translate, an Voice texting are all superior. Having widgets is also a great option. The snapping of word text when you browse the internet beats IOS big time of having to scroll from left to right to read the text.

So you really just have to take a hard look at what features on each OS you would use the most, and choose wisely. Better yet, if you can, get both. You get the best of both worlds and can do all things instead of limiting yourself to just one OS.

Now before someone starts the stupid fan boy crap, I am not bias or loyal to any one system or device. I have a PS3, Xbox 360, Wii, PC, Mac Book, DS, PSP. All I care about is performance in a UI more then anything.

There are some things IOS does better then Android, and some things Android does better then IOS. This is pointless, much like XBOX 360 vs PS3. Options and choices are a good thing people. If your Android/Apple all you have to make is devices that people want and the devices, if good, will sale themselves.

The Android platform beats apple in someways, as Apple beats Android in others. So just enjoy both, other wise your just lying to yourselves.

It just gives us something to talk about :) I love having different technologies to play with. I am a super nerd and love it!

Happy Xooming!

I now have both a Xoom (for me) and an iPad (for my wife).

The iPad has an easier interface my wife can understand. I'm not saying my wife is stupid, she is just not a tech-savvy person.

The Xoom is way more functional for what I like to do, and way faster. However, Im sure the iPad2 will take care of that.

They are both great tools, and I can truly say I prefer the Xoom over the iPad.
