Xperia Z3 Bluetooth problem

I have a Sony Xperia Z3 on the UK 3 network running the current version of Android (I believe 5.1.1). A few days ago a strange fault developed. Every now and again, the Bluetooth connection between the phone and my car (2012 BMW 5-series, F10 generation, Professional Navigation) drops out. It mainly occurs when I ask it to do something - for instance, if I make or receive a call.

So far I've tried doing a software update, a factory reset (full reinstall of apps and settings) and wiping the Bluetooth connection and starting again), all without success.

Is there definitely a hardware fault, or is there anything else I should try to fix the problem?

I've had the same problem in my 2011 BMW Wagon since late last year. Phone connects, but if I play music, or receive a call (or basically if the phone wakes up), it squelches and disconnects. It also sometimes wipes out the other bluetooth phones that in the car's bluetooth device memory. I haven't been able to figure out precisely if it is the car or the phone, my phone connects with many other bluetooth devices and headsets fine, and the car has no trouble with iphones. it seems they just don't like each other. Any solutions out there? my z3c is almost two years old, so it might just get fixed with a new phone...

It might be an issue of device compatibility, either requiring the car radio to be updated or the phone. What phone are you considering?
