Yahoo Mail app DRAINING BATTERY!!!

SMD - THANK YOU! I really appreciate the detailed information. I decided to download it and sure enough, it accesses my Yahoo mail which I thought was impossible without paying Yahoo for pop access. You opened my eyes!!!

Not to hijack this thread but maybe you can answer this one question. We are all talking about the number of times Yahoo polls for messages. On Maildroid, it has "Connection management" One of the choices is "close connection when I exit the mailbox" and under that is an interval setting. I should have that option selected then pick an interval that it will "wake up" and check, right?

THANKS AGAIN!

P.S. I also support developers like you do. If this works out, I'll probably pay that high price. I already paid for Touchdown but I use it for work email and I'd like to keep it separate. It's not cheap either.

Hi! Glad you liked it. You see it just got another update last night. He's always improving and fixing it up. I've been with it since March 2011 and its come a long way. I looked into what that setting you mentioned is on my phone and I have it set at "Stay Connected for Performance and Immediate Notifications". So no, I'd recommend not setting an interval to check email. That's what others do and I've had great luck with no real battery issues (on a Thunderbolt too...wow! LOL!) by selecting it to stay connected. At the end of the day, I look at battery statistics and Maildroid is always close to last even if I'm on it quite a bit. I don't ever remember switching this setting so I think maybe it was set to this as default for me. The best thing to do is always try it out yourself not just for a few hours but for a few days. See if that works.

I remember when I first started with Maildroid I was more concerned about the "Sleep mode Management" section under "Account Preferences" I eventually settled on leaving it on "Let Device Sleep" and it still worked great and I seem to always get my emails right away with no battery issues. If you have any questions or issues the developer can be easily reached at maildroiddev at gmail dot com. And yes, the pro version is unusually expensive but I've also not had half the issues I've seen on various forums about email (specifically Yahoo mail) over the last 10 months so to me, its money well spent. Definitely keep with the free version and see how it treats you. I think you'll find it to work great for Yahoo and other mail clients. Hope that helps.

This thread should serve as notice that nobody should ever use the Yahoo Mail app. One question for PaulQ....How many mailboxes do you have man..?? Touchdown, K-9, Yahoo Mail, and Gmail on top of it I'm sure...That's a lot of syncing to ask from a phone.

Four. I had three but when I got the Droid, I had to add Gmail. I know it's a lot. I now have Touchdown handling my work email using push. Gmail handling Gmail using push. Maildroid handling Cox and Yahoo using pull. I could probably dump one but I just haven't gotten around to it. It all seems to be finest now though.

anyone above checked if it was the yahoo mail app when they unistalled it

Does MailDroid or any other 3rd party mail app support Yahoo's multiple mailboxes?
I have traditional inbox, but also 32 other custom boxes that filter certain addresses or subjects to automatically.
The onboard email app only picked up Inbox which is useless to me. I turned off Yahoo! mail app notifications so it does not interrupt me with a flashing LED every 2 minutes.
