Greetings all and happy new year!
Well I am pondering which phone to purchase out contract as I am growing bored with my trusty ole droid x.

I have put on new roms and so forth to change it up a bit but I am really liking the look sof the razor and of course the performance specs. I like others am concerned about the lack of ability to remove the battery for swap and understand I can purchase a add on from amazon.

Thing is, do i spend the 450.00ish(typical price on ebay) for this phone or wait until June of 2012 when my contract expires.. The droid 4 looks awesome and slide out keyboard maybe slick but not released until rumored of February. Sigh ... The phone is not some thing I "need" rather something of a "want" I think you all know how that goes. :)

I do live in an area where there is 4G so i can take advantage of that.. Also i have some family members that love their iphones 4 and 4s. (I have to admit I think the camera on those phones surpase the android phones) and they are trying to persuade me in that direction.

My use is a few phone calls here and there some texting and web browsing.. nothing really heavy but I do like taking pictures when I see something interesting as it goes hand in hand with the google+ sharing.. I figured if I dont like the phone I am sure i can plop it back on ebay and almost get what I paid for it..

Anyhow I guess this a good problem to have if you call it a problem at all.. :)

There are rumors of a "RAZR MAX" that may appear in the near future with high-def screen, better camera, etc. You can't go wrong by waiting. It's just a few months.

If you want it now, the RAZR is a very nice phone. I'm using Juice Defender to stretch battery life, and with your usage pattern, you could easily get 2-3 days on a charge. The display is the biggest power drain. Unless you're going camping for a week without access to power you shouldn't have any problems.

Thanks for the info.. Is the razor max a slide out keyboard by chance?

not its not but the rumors have it will be a lil thicker then the razr and have a better screen/camera/ processor.

i mean if your gonna keep waiting for the NEXT best thing then you will wait forever but just wait until ces which is like 5 days away and you will get more insight on phones that are coming out.

i don't think we will see the razr maxx so soon considering that the RAZR is VZW flagship phone ( yes over the galaxy nexus)

I was also waiting and pondering like you whether to get the Razr or Nexus now or wait a few months for the next great thing. I also had the Droid X, got it on launch day, and have loved it all the time. Eventually, I ordered a Razr, and I can tell you it is one GORGEOUS phone ! So quick compared to the X,! I also have 4 G available, and just decided it was time to take advantage. The battery issue can be easily resolved, as you say, by buying a Battery bank from Amazon, a so called Anker for $23. It provides 2 full charges on the Razr, so no more worries about that. I can also tell you the camera takes Really good pic., especially in good outside light. It is the only camera I use. You know the best camera is the one you have with you !

Just my 2 cents !:)

Also, wanted to add that the battery is just as good as the Droid X battery, but here you can't buy an extended battery.

Just exchanged my GNEX today to the RAZR....my honest opinion is both have their pros and cons....

GNEX:
PROS:
Great Display
ICS
No Bloat
Great Dev Support
Removable Battery

CONS:
Terrible Signal Strength
Buggy
Battery (my opinion)
Accessories

RAZR:
PROS:
SIGNAL STRENGTH
HARDWARE
CAMERA
OS STABILITY
APP INTEGRATIONS
BATTERY LIFE FOR ME
ACCESSORIES

CONS:
Bloatware (fixed with root)
No Removable Battery
Gingerbread
Updates through VZW
Maybe Battery for Some

Again only had the phone about 12 hrs.....both phones are great...i just prefer the better reception and stronger signal....

My Anker works just fine with my Razr, got the 3200 MaH it also says it is for the Razr.
It has been a very good thing to have, just in case !

Nice info thus far... And appreciated...:)

Also the droid 4 is simply the droid razer with a keyboard. With that said I wonder if battery is removable.

I just 6 days ago made this same switch, iPhone 4s to Razr. Both phones are great I will mention my biggest observations.

1) Camera: iPhone 4s blows the Razr away in this category, not even close. iPhone 4s camera took darn near pro-quality pics for me. The Razr has a blue-tint to the pics and the colors just seem off. This sucks and after spending the day with my daughter in Chicago yesterday I am not sure if I can live with the Razr camera.

2) The thing that absolutely irritated me about the iPhone was that if you are trying to download something over 20MB in size, you HAVE to be on wifi. This is a PITA as if you are out and about and want to d/l a movie/tv show or app that is larger than 20MB you MUST find a wifi to do it.

3) MotoCast is AWESOME!!! I cant believe that others havent copied this yet and put it on their devices, talk about a great program. For those that dont know it is a program that gives you access to all your files/pics/music that is stored on your PC/laptop wirelessly. So I can access my stuff from my laptop that is sitting at home, while I am anywhere else.

4) Apps always seem to cost money in the App Store compared to the Android Market.

5) I really like the 4.3" screen vs the 3.5" size. The picture quality on both is tremendous but that extra real estate on the screen really is nice to have when watching movies/videos.

6) the overall performance of iOS seems to be smoother and less "complicated" than Android. What I mean is, let's say you have a first time smartphone user, I would be willing to guess that they could learn and navigate an iPhone easier than an Android device. iPhone's seems to pretty much be a "turn on and use" type device while Androids usually take some tinkering to getting it to work to ipotential.

7) Widgets.... never thought I would miss them, until I didnt have them on the iPhone. Also the ability to customize home screens and place widgets/icons anywhere I missed on the iPhone.

8) Notification area/bar. This is new for iOS and its done "ok" but no actual notification icons other than the pesky red circle with a number in it by the app/inbox that has a new notification. I would like to see notification icons at the top of the screen like Android/BlackBerry

9) Battery Life ... to me they are about even. I would get a days use out of my iPhone 4s (although no where near as good as my wife's iPhone 4) and with my razr I get about 18-23 hrs use out of it. HOWEVER, I live in a 3G only area so that affects it greatly. Yesterday in Chicago I was on 4G and barely made it 8 hrs before being in the red and requiring a charge on the Razr.

So after hitting on those few things, I would say each phone has it positives and negatives. Right now I am happy with the Droid Razr. NOW...... when the new iPhone comes out and has 4G LTE, a bigger screen (minimum of 4") and re-evaluates the 20MB over wifi only requirement, I would definatley go back to it.
