I thought my Nexus was fine after reverting to 4.1.1... then today when I am expecting an important call I hit answer and it freezes and reboots. This happened three times. I had had enough and went into the Sprint store and exchanged the phone. This is especially frustrating because I did not install any third party apps, I just installed some google Apps and thats it. I hardly did anything to the phone to see if any of that fixed the problem. With this replacement (brand new) I got Lucky... even though the box says "updated" (to 4.1.1) I noticed it is on 4.0.4. I am staying on 4.0.4 and if I continue to have problems I am going to have to look for another phone, I have 7 more days to make up my mind. I am happy with my Nexus just making and answering phone calls and I am frustrated it even do that.

I do not root, I am not much into tweaking, I run stock everything, I install a couple apps here and there and add old pictures, for the life of me I cant figure out whats the deal? As Nexus owners are things so difficult for you guys?

I got the Nexus exchanged for a brand new one for free, but next time within the next 7 days to get another phone will be a 35 dollar re-stocking fee. After that I am stuck with this phone. What do you guys suggest? Should I look for a comparable phone? (the only thing that seems even close is the Evo 4G LTE) Should I just keep this one and sell it and buy something else around the 200-250 range (used or new) ? :-[

There have been very few issues with the Galaxy Nexus as far as what you're talking about. I'm going to say the radio was faulty (hence the reboot upon answering a call), and it's very unlikely it was related to the version of the OS installed. I've had my Gnex for 4.0.4, 4.1.1, and now 4.2.1 and it's been a solid performer. I even live/work in an area that's not exactly great sprint coverage (I rarely get 3g, let alone LTE, and roam about 15% of the time). I would update to the 4.1 at least, it ads a lot of buttery smoothness to the phone.

If you're returning a defective phone, why are they going to charge you a restocking fee if you're exchanging it for another of the same model?

I dont know as much as you or probably some of the other guys here about phones but it is interesting you mention the radio being faulty. According to some of the stuff I read online if I remember correctly the original Nexus I got had radio FC12. This new replacement they gave me has FH05. And I have yet to have any reboot problems with this new replacement while answering or making phone calls or at any other time. It is still on 4.1.1 and I keep getting a notification to upgrade to 4.2.1 but I am a little scared to do it haha.... and yeah the phone runs great on 4.1.1. As far as signal goes I get great 3G (albeit slow) and with the first Nexus I got I got spotty 4G in several areas. I noticed on the first one I got 4G after a couple times I did a "PRL update" and a Profile Update... I want to try this on the new replacement one they gave me but I dont want to mess it up or anything so I dont even try.

And about the re-stocking fee That is what I told the Sprint representative and she said it was because " you upgraded the Software and sometimes that can cause problems" and that I would just have to deal with it until the next update since it was nothing wrong with the phone itself. She pretty much just told me not to upgrade software. I upgraded from 4.04 to 4.1.1 and I might stay on this for a couple days until I decide what I am going to do. I have not even installed any apps, added old pictures, or have not customized it at all but I think I am in a couple days because it seems like its pointless to get a new device and not customize it how I want fearing that something I do to it or add (apps) can cause a problem.

And she said if the problem persists to look into getting another phone but I really like the Nexus :-[

I would hold off for the moment until they have the next update ready for the Sprint Gnex to fix the 4.2.1 bugs. When they go official with the new update then update to 4.2.1 and onward to the latest.

Are you using a custom Kernel, rom, over clocking? anything else other than stock android and Kernel. Mine did this, but I changed to Codename Android and it is fine!

I would talk to another rep. If you aren't supposed to update the phone they should make it optional, ie make a way to turn it off. Saying you can't return a phone because you updated the operating system software they they sent you over air is the the equivalent of Best Buy saying you can't return your Dell or HP because Windows did a security update that you installed.

Sent from my totally awesome Sprint Galaxy Nexus, even if I don't know all its secrets yet.
