Your favorite car mounts for M9? Anyone use a magnetic one without going into dot view?

I'm trying to figure out how to mount my M9 in my '09 Santa Fe. Ideally:
  • Sits next to the wheel on the right hand side
  • Fits my phone with a very thin case on it (I don't like clunky cases so much)
  • Charges the phone (at the very least allows for easy charging)
  • Mounts on the dash, not the windshield
I realize that there is also a reality that some people choose to live in.

I would be fine with a magnetic holder, but it doesn't seem to take a lot of magnetism to activate the dot matrix mode. Anyone have successes with this?

I dug around in Settings to disable dot view, and my magnetic mount no longer is a problem.

UPDATE:
Settings > Personalize > (scroll down a bit) HTC Dot View, tap on that, and it shows Dot View Themes. Tap on the "hamburger" icon next to Themes > Settings > uncheck Turn on HTC Dot View

Oh ****! I had seen online that people were trying to root their phones to do this. Maybe they were trying to uninstall or use the magnet for something else (like car mode). Any reviews on magnetic mounts then?

Kenu Airframe. Regular size. Low profile, great materials, $30. Fits in the vent in a variety of different positions including landscape if you need it, and it's easy to remove and doesn't look ugly when the phone isn't on. Highly recommended!

Looks slick, for sure. Still, I'd like to keep my vents free if possible, looking for a proper dash mount. Also, probably going to be using a Spigen Neo Hybrid Series Case.

Looked at Steelies, I don't think I would have a problem with cutting a hole in the case to make it sit flush, but I don't like the idea of having anything mounted on the outside of the case. It would also be nice to be able to stick my phone to things, I use my hands a lot. Have heard about destroying credit cards with those though. And if they stick out too far from the case, they'll make your phone spin while laying flat (once again, I use my hands a lot).

Opinions on the iMagnet? Realistically, I have magnets. With the little backing plate I could still stick my phone to other things. If it would hold, I might be interested. Does their "patented suction cup" actually work well? What about when it's 100 degrees out?

I've used one by Tetrax for years and never had an issue with the magnet. Very low profile and works great. There are a few different models but this is the one I bought: [apparently don't have enough posts to include links but it's the Tetrax 72008 at Amazon]

The good thing about the vent mounted ones though is that your phone stays cooler while using GPS. The M9 gets a little toasty from it sometimes.

That's my car. The vent to the right of the wheel probably would work fine. I just don't like the idea of limiting the functionality of something in my car (the air conditioning). Realistically it will still get some breeze from the vent if it's on more of a dash type mount, but I will too. Basically, I'm just not a fan of the clip-onto-a-vent aesthetic. I know that's silly, but I'm hoping you'll still bear with me, lol. I'm leaning towards the imagnetic as of right now. Car's actually in the shop at the moment, so I'll have to measure this stuff out before committing anyway. I magnet may be too tall. Any comments? Anyone recommend something like a ProClip over a magnetic holder?

I am going to jump in here and a similar question.

I have a Mini cooper and the vents are round. Any ideas for Vent mounts?

My dash has a pattern so suction does not work and the windshield is small so dont want to kill my real estate there.

Thanks for all the sugestions.

Not if you have the heat on in the winter. . Bends the vents and prone to breaking them.

I have used a Kenu for more than 2 years now. In the winter I just turn off the vent to keep the heat off of the phone. In the summer I leave the A/C blowing thru the vent. Vent slats have not bent at all. Wife has one, too. Works for iPhone and Android. I have had the regular Kenu and the Kenu+. Get the Kenu Airframe+. Gives you more flexibility for cases. Great for traveling. Lightweight. Can stick a hotel room key/card in the slot and the Kenu becomes a viewing stand for videos.

I use a vent magnet from iClever... I love it and the vent keeps the phone cool... It's very strong and gives you options whether to mount it to the phone or case or slip the plate in between the phone and case.

All of the suggestions above are good.
I just got a new car and have been experimenting with car mounts. These can be had at almost nothing from Aliexpress.com . Nothing in it for me, just pointing out a good deal. Yes, you have to be willing to wait the 7-21 days each of my orders have taken to arrive. But shipping is included, all the product has been exactly as described, and I use a visa ShopSafe number (specially generated card with limited time and charge amount) to be absolutely certain that my CC will not be used all over China.

Oh..and I also disabled dot view as the magnetic mounts did set this off.

First the Kenu Airframe…this works well and I ordered a couple more for travel and put one in my wifes car.

This little mount is meant to stick on your dash with included 3m pads. I just couldn’t make myself do that on my dash..but I am using this on my office desk, and the little metal disk was the thinnest and smallest attachable magnetic piece so I am using that (turned around so the silver side shows and pretty closely matches the color of my m9 back) with the larger vent magnet below. $3.59

Finally…this is what I am currently using, with the metal disk from above. I put mine in the side window vent..further up the dash from the regular AC vent and to the left of my steering. This allows the cord to be unobtrusive and unseen by a passenger. I ran a power outlet under seat and under carpet mat. The USB connector comes out under dash space near the steering wheel.

****AS someone else noted in another thread..the vent mount units have two different "tightness" fingers..rotate the mount and try both. The smaller/tighter ones work best for me***

So...you can try them all for under $15...just have to be willing to wait a little longer than Amazon or Ebay.

^^^ all of this. I've tried dash, vent, and lighter mounts and the kenu comes out on top.

I think I'm going to go with the iClever, based on reviews from amazon. These are cheap, so its not a crime against humanity if I end up buying two. Maybe my girlfriend just has a gift coming... Thanks everyone for your help, if the magnetic ones don't work, for whatever reason, I'll try the kenu.

NEW PROBLEM
Okay, so got my car back from the shop and went to put the iClever mount in... There isn't a flat enough space on the dash to do it in a portrait orientation. Also, the vent right there angles in towards the wheel about 15 degrees. It's just enough to catch all of the glare and look weird. The vent clips don't have the ball mount heads, so I cant adjust for it. So i guess I'm back to proclip? It's like 70 dollars though, and I have a case, so its not like it automatically charges it when I put it in...

(The actual phone portion is seperate)
On the HTC universal case, is that just a weighted base, or...? Also, they don't list the M9 as compatible with its auto car mode thing (although I could probably still make it work with the tasker app).

It looks like it's a suction cup from one of the pics. I just checked and under "specs and compatibility" it lists "also available for" and then a bunch of phones. So I assume that it's compatible with auto carplay as it says also. I've not used it so I'm not positive
