Youtube and Notification Issues

Good Morning All, I'm new to the forum and also new to the GS4 after switching from the iphone after many years.

The issue i'm having is the Youtube app works fantastic when i'm on Wifi but when on 4G network it says "There was a problem with the network" but its not a network issue as my friends is the same on a different provider. I have updated the app, uninstalled & reinstalled the app and forced stop and cleared the cache but still wont work.

The second issue that bugs me is notifications i.e facebook, instergram and twitter I receive full notifications when on Wifi but again on 4G nothing at all.

Can anyone help please

Does your internet work at all when not on WIFI? It sounds like you're not getting a data connection...might need to discuss that with your carrier.

Yes everything works fine when on wifi all notifications etc, but when I run on 4g I get no notifications at all

Wow, never seen that happen before. This is just my educated guess, but for notifications I believe they are pushed over by Google within the Android system. This may be a little wrong, but it's not something I spend tons of time on. If it can't communicate with this service, it won't be able to push notifications. That has happened to me on some really bad wifi connections. As for YouTube, that's probably faulty Internet as well. What carrier do you have? I'm leaning towards apn as the issue, because it's network related. Could you redo your apn settings and see if that works? It just seems like it can't communicate properly. Also, you could download an app called set dns and set it to Google's dns servers. It's a communication issue though for sure

I'm on O2 UK, I have spoken to them and they have reset my APN settings twice and still no good, I have tried the app set dns but it will not become active under google dns

Okay, well let me think a minute. It shouldn't be an issue, I'm not sure why it's occurring. Oh and the set dns app, that's my bad. It requires root to fully function (I take that for granted, all of my devices are rooted). At this point a factory reset couldn't hurt, something is messed up. Honestly I'm baffled at the problem. I'm thinking it's got to be your carrier or something related to it, but if the apn is correct I'm not sure. And if it was a bad dns server, it should be causing issues with everything. I'm great at troubleshooting usually, but I have no idea. Factory reset it and see if it does anything, but at this point I'm not entirely sure it will do anything.

Hi droidarmy... I have solved the issue and like you said it's baffled you. For some reason there were about 9 apps in the date usage section there were restricted. I have unchecked them and hey presto everything is working. Full notifications and my YouTube app now works on 4g. I appreciate your help on this. I'm sure you helped with the issue with the apn as that had parts missing. Thanks again buddy

No problem, I'm glad it's fixed! I didn't think apps could be restricted in data usage, but hey we learn something new everyday right? That would certainly explain the issue though, funny how things randomly happen and we can't seem to figure out why. Hopefully no more problems down the line!

Rooting basically allows administrative permissions, just like being an administrator on a computer. It allows you full access to the system, so more things can be done. It's basically giving you the same permissions as the system (which is every permission available). Rooting is installing a program that activates root access such as superuser to the phone to do tasks that require root. Root, if I'm not mistaken, is named after the root folder on the phone ( or / in a file viewer).

No problem! And for a rooting, cf auto root is excellent. Just make sure, if you try to root, that it's for your specific device model. That's a mistake that's usually made, and problems can occur. If you read up on it, I'm sure it will be a simple and quick process.
