YouTube and other videos lag??

Hey all, I've been having this issue with my phone for months now and its just annoying as hell. If I use my YouTube to watch a video or any other form of videos, they take forever to load and when they do they lag like mad. If I pause it for a min of two so it can buffer/load it'll still lag and skip like crazy. Am I missing something? I've restarted my phone like its going to help any :/ nothing I do works. Its to the point where I just want to throw it against a wall. Can anyone help me out and put me in the right direction?
Thanks for any help
Mike

How much system memory do you have available? If you're seriously low on memory you're going to have a hard time playing video.

THEWHITEZOMBIE,

It is probably a good thing to find out as well: are you using the phone's network for the videos, or are you using WiFi? If you use WiFi, does it get better or still laggy?

It says I have 250MB of internal storage and 4.07gb on SD card
I'm not a wiz with tech stuff so not site if those are good or not

As far as wifi or not, it makes no difference at all. This has been non stop since November I just try to refrain myself from using video at all :/

Thanks for the help guys

THEWHITEZOMBIE,

I'm sorry the phone is giving you such grief with videos. It is frustrating when these things don't work like they should.

On the memory thing, check here:
From the home screen, click Menu -> Settings -> Applications -> Running Services

At the bottom it should say something like 212 MB used and 349 MB free.

What does it say there?

It says 82MB in 4 and 230MB+147 in 37

It shows the green more then 3/4 of the scale as well

THEWHITEZOMBIE,

I'm going to start with some of the easy stuff. First, have you gone to Android market and updated your Youtube app? The other videos that are choppy, are they streaming or saved to your SD card (is it only streaming movies like Netflix that are choppy or all videos period)?

From what I could tell from your response, your available memory appears to be good, assuming I understood you correctly.

Thanks!

I look for an update twist week and nothing comes up. It also lags with every video format other then my saved SD vids like ones I take with the phone. I've read resent reviews about the YouTube app and it seems like everyone is having a similar problem. But why is mine doing it with all formats :/
All I want to do is shazam a song and watch the video haha

I don't know where you're looking, but if you're looking where tmn72tx described it should just say (x)MB used on a gray bar and (x)MB free on a green bar. But this is also misleading. The best way to check available system memory is to pull down the notification bar, choose quick settings and look at total memory. That will tell you what system memory is free.

I'm looking right at what he told me to check an copied exactly what it showed. About and 1/8th of the bar is in the red the rest is all green

Settings> SD&phone storage >SD storage is 7.39GB with available space saying 4.08GB
Internal storage says 373MB
Dose that help you guys?
Again thanks for anyhelp

THEWHITEZOMBIE,

You've got me. I can't explain why your video is choppy. I have 6 movies that I have ripped using Handbrake and they are clear as a bell. So are my YouTube and Netflix movies. I wish I had an answer for you.

You can always try the last resort of the dejected and unhelped. You can try a full reset and see if it is still there. But that is a crappy answer, I know.:'(

Nope, not yet. If you do what I said in my last post, you could see what available memory is. Nothing you have listed shows that. Internal storage and system memory are two different things. Also, I'm assuming you're running Gingerbread, but some of the things you said are starting to make me unsure.

How do I find the quick settings? I pull the tab but nothing shows up :/ sorry if I'm lame with this not a tech guy

If you're talking about flash videos lagging, then its becuase the phone is just slow. For me playing flash is usually a difficulty but with a rooted device the bravia engine is installed with most ROMs increasing hq and hd framerates. But you dont seem rooted and I think you may have a broken device. Try to get AT&T to fix it or get you a new phone. I've had stranger problems before and AT&T fixed them without question.

So if you swipe down on the screen, it opens the Notifications screen. If you're running Gingerbread, at the bottom there will be 2 tabs, Notifications and Quick Settings. If you don't see those 2 tabs, then you're still on Froyo, and I've been on Gingerbread so long I can't remember where to find the memory info on Froyo.

No rom at all just the stock set up with the adw launcher

Hi, So i had this problem too. Goto > Options > More... > Applications. Go to the last page and remove EVERYTHING USELESS from there ( Daemontools for me and the games )

This will help! Enjoy.

I have like 3.47Gb of internal storage left and around 29.7Gb free on SD card and still YouTube and other online videos lag (screen freezes and the sound is still on it takes a while for the screen to play , but the sound and display are out of sync )
