Just bought my Tab S2 (the updated SM-T713 model) and love it. The one downside is that there are complications with the YouTube app. The app refuses to play any videos available in 60 fps properly. All these videos only have resolution options that go up to 480p (which looks terrible on a screen with such a high resolution). I can play 720p and 1080p videos that are only available in 30 fps without any issue. Since I'm a pretty fanatical gamer, most of the channels that I watch and even most of my own videos have 60 fps.
I've tried uninstalling the update to the app and running it at the original defaults, but performance is terrible (I doubt that version was optimized for running in Marshmallow). I've re-installed the update and still no change.
I have contacted YouTube support and they gave me a really incompetent answer. They basically said that the example videos I sent them had the HD @ 60 fps options when brought up on their desktop and therefor my tablet's hardware must be not capable of handling 60 fps videos. I'm pretty darn sure that when people on older and lower-spec Android devices can play videos with these options, then a recent high-end Tablet should not have any hardware related trouble doing so; also, the options entirely missing instead of being available, yet running poorly also seems to indicate the problem is more with the app than the device.
Does anyone know how to resolve this issue?
