YouTube App Update: Anyone Else Miss This?

I was rummaging through the web version of the Market last night when I noticed that there was an update for the YouTube app available for my Galaxy Nexus (on 4.0.2 stock) and my Xoom (4.0.3 stock). The update brings the app to version 3.5.5 and it looks like it was released last week. I didn't get a notification regarding its availability on either my Nexus or my Xoom and the update didn't show up under "My Apps" in the Market apps on either device. A "pub:Google Inc." search in the Market apps didn't bring it up at all. For whatever reason, I had to push the update from the web version of the Market.

It doesn't really add anything new. The only reasons I'm bringing this up are (1) I haven't seen anyone talking about it, so some people may not know to go get it; and (2) for whatever reason, after the update, my phone seems to run much smoother. It could be wishful thinking on my part, but things feel a bit quicker now overall. I've also had problems streaming over wifi with the app itself and it looks like that was fixed.

Sorry if I just missed the boat on this, but if I did, maybe someone else might have.

So, i checked it out and i had version 3.3.0 installed. When i went into "My Apps" in the market it did not list Youtube, yet i did have the app on my phone. Anyway, i searched for the app in the market and when i selected it it gave me an option to uninstall or update. I selected update and now Youtube is listed under "My Apps". Strange.......

Thanks for the post. I went and updated. Doesn't look like any major changes though.

I downloaded it and noticed that while watching a video, a new button appears in the action bar. We now have the option to add videos to playlist. But the app also feels slower and laggier than before.

pretty sure that was always there....since i never used the "save to playlist" thing until i go my nexus.

I was on 3.3.0, searched youtube in the market, and updated right from the phone. dont really notice anything different, but i am sure they improved it somehow. but weird that it didn't show up for anyone as being updated.

That's the normal behavior for pre-installed apps. Once you install an upgrade it appears in the "My Apps" section. But only the upgrade appears there. You can't uninstall YouTube (or any other pre-installed app) from the My Apps section, you can only uninstall upgrades. If you uninstall upgrades then the original app will still be on your phone and will no longer be listed in the My Apps section.

Thanks! I found a youtube player in the process, allows a play list and it'll play with the screen off.

I found the update as well after checking the market place

I also checked the MYVerizon app, there was also an update for that as well, but only looking at the app in the market place.
