Welcome to Android Central! To be clear--you're concerned about the data usage, not internal storage running low, correct? They're two different things.

Go to Settings>Data Usage to see what apps are using the most data. For some apps, you can go to their menus and look for a Data Refresh or Sync option, and set it to Manual (or the longest interval possible). For apps that don't give you this option, you can select the app in the Data Usage menu and tap Restrict Background Data (or you can universally Restrict Background Data, but this might make you miss things like important app notifications).
