Welcome to the forums!

Right now you would have to contact MetroPCS, and request for the unlock code. Hopefully, they will give it to you. If they don't, there are other ways to unlock them (I am not sure how), but currently methods that are not authorized by a carrier is illegal.

Welcome to Android Central, Manhood.

Regarding your questions, MetroPCS uses a different technology for phone coverage (CDMA) than T-Mobile's (GSM). You can't take the phone from MetroPCS and unlock or connect it to T-Mobile. The hardware is different and not compatible. You can probably take the device to any other CDMA carrier or prepaid service. However, you'll have to do some legwork to get the device unlocked and working on the new network. Please note that depending on the provider you decide to take the device, if at all possible, you'll likely be missing 4G or possibly even 3G if the standard in which the carrier operates is not compatible with the ZTE Avid 4G.

I hope this helps.
