ZVC vs. ZVH and other questions

Hi,

I'm looking into rooting my phone and I have a couple of questions I was wondering if anyone could help me with.

1) Most of the guides say they are for ZVH or ZVD. My phone is ZVC. Can someone point me to a clear easy guide on how to root ZVC?
2) Once I root, is there a way to back up my ZVC install in case I want to go back to it? I saw some people recommending I OTA update to ZVD, but I want the ability to go back to the install I have right now.
3) Do I need to upgrade at all to ZVD in order to install a custom gingerbread ROM or can I do it straight from ZVC? Are there any benefits to updating to ZVD first?
4) Will installing a custom ROM delete all my apps? If so, how would you recommend backing them up?

I'm a bit of a noob when it comes to this so I appreciate any help you can offer!

Thanks!

All ROMs on this forum are for either ZVD or ZVH. You will not get anything special for ZVC and really you are hindering yourself from a better radio as well... You can either, 1. Update to ZVD and stay on Reborn ROM or the CM7 ports, or 2. Update to ZVH and enjoy a few other ROMs. Not gonna name drop but there are a bunch of good ROMs for ZVH.

If I update to ZVH and then don't like it will there be a way to go back to what I have now? Also, do I just update by going into settings and pressing update or is it more complicated than that?

for you.. you can update from the settings... and yes, there is a way to go back, but you wont need to.

It will rewrite the entire phone OS, so yes. Doing backups of apps and installing between different basebands is not recommended or supported. Backup your list of apps and any data (SMS logs, phone contacts, etc) through each app, then reinstall from within the new ROM.

So it's a bad idea to use something like this? I have like 100 apps and reinstalling all of them from the market would probably take a long time.

Also, the OS settings are claiming my system is up to date even though I only have ZVC. Is there another way to update to ZVH?

Just search "zv9 zvc zvd." There are lots and lots of really well written tutorials and info that walk you step by step threw the baseband upgrade and downgrade progress. Just gotta research a bit. All the info is here.
