Ok so here is a simple way to get custom icons on any rom.

1. Download Downloads - android-apktool - A tool for reengineering Android apk files - Google Project Hosting

2. Unzip your rom file into a folder

3. Go to the system>app section and find the apk's (for example the browser apk)

4.copy that apk file to C:\users on your computer

5.Open cmd prompt and type apktool d (apkname)
(ex:browser.apk)

6. After the apk tool has decompiled it, the folder will show up in the C:\users, go into the folder and go into res>drawablehdpi

7. Put any image you want in there, for example a different browser icon and rename it to the exact same as the image you are replacing. Before renaming the new image change the original to something so it doesn't get deleted.

8. Go to cmd prompt and type apktool b (folder name)
(ex: Browser)

9. once the apktool is done compiling the apk put the apk on your SD card

10.Use root explorer to put the new apk into the system>app folder. Change the name of the original apk that you are replacing, just add a 1 to the end of the name. Paste the new apk in that folder and reboot!!

ive tried this with CM7 and Gingeritis and it has worked for those two roms.
