rom recovery

When recovering a rom will it replace the radio? I have the mr1 radio and running lightning 3.3.1 rom. I would like to flash to the mr2 radio and try some different roms, but a little leary of doing so if the recovery will not go back to the mr1.

It will not replace the radio just the rom
