Posted this on xda but I think heres a better place.

Hello everyone.

Long story short I got a droid razr and my mom got my thunderbolt. For ease of use I want to unroot it for her.

I looked at the stickies and saw there wasnt a method to unroot for my situation.

My phone was rooted with the old auto root method from back in march of 2011. So how do I unroot now?

Thanks.

Hey yoda, on top of what I said above, below is a method which is in a sticky in this forum above. Does this work? I was going to do this because I found it too at xda but I noticed (bolded quoted text) required me to do something else, so could I use this method or stick with the one you gave me?

Putting current stock firmware and s-on back onto the phone

After getting the bootloader back to the original s-off, engineering 1.04.2000
hboot download these 2 files:
1)PG05IMG_1.70.605.0_nohboot.zip
md5: c2c61df561e8a74cd103f0b9b89d81d6
and
2) PG05IMG_hboot_only_1.04.0000
md5: 584a4cdc12658835cb2a7885e8e44fd2

Rename PG05IMG_1.70.605.0_nohboot.zip to "PG05IMG"... move to your sd card and flash in hboot.

This is important! you must flash the PG05IMG_1.70.605.0_nohboot.zip first!

After successfully flashing that... you will be on unrooted mr2 with an eng s-off bootloader. Delete the PG05IMG file from your sd card. Now place the PG05IMG_hboot_only_1.04.0000 on your sd card. Check the md5. Once you've verified it matches... you can rename it "PG05IMG" and flash it.

Again, ONLY flash the hboot file after you have successfully flashed the rom.

Now you are 100% stock on latest firmware. Unrooted MR2 (1.70.605.0), with s-on 1.04.0000 bootloader.

I would work it was Manley for the revolutionary root method that required a special way to unroot because of the way it protects the boot loader. I would stick to the other method as its easier and less likely for something to go wrong

Okay not trying to be a PITA but I am not sure what was used when my phone was rooted but evidently it was "unrooted" when my phone received an OTA update and a friend tried to "re-root" it and ever since, the phone runs like #$%& and it randomly will automatically download pushed updates OTA and when I wake up its got a little blue Droid guy on the screen and I need to reformat the phone to get it to work again.

I just want to unroot it and return it back to stock. If I don't know what has already been done to it, is there a way to find out or is there a simple universal way to unroot? Any help is so appreciated. I can give you any info that is needed just let me know what you need to know.

Thanks!
