Does tethering work on a non rooted Charge?
If so which thethering app works the best?
Is there a free one that allows https?

PDANet should let you tether without root. You can buy it and it'll let you use do https.

The built in one is supposed to be promotional right now and free of charge, no idea how long that will last though.

I personally think that Verizon is going to have to crack down on the tethering with the 4G as people will be abusing even more as it's faster than most home wired internet. I'd root and use the free stuff until that happens so you aren't out the $10 or $15 with PDANet.
