Notifications when headphones plugged in

Listening to a podcast at work then an app needs updated, so instead of notification just playing through the headphones, it plays through speaker and headphones.
In order to turn down the notification you have to unplug the headphones or it just turns down the headphone volume, then it will let you turn down the ringer volume!

This seems kinna strange, anyone else experiencing this?

If you're running one of imnuts' kernels, you can use the voodoo control app and it has an option to keep the phone on vibrate when listening to music (Don't Interrupt Music). Also, the Widgetsoid app (don't even need root) allows you to have a detailed volume control. You can add it to a bar with other widgets, and when you click on it, an audio mixer opens up that lets you individually set the volumes for everything.
