HTC DNA Verizon phone is dead, How do I retrieve sms from phone without the screen on?

My phone has lost the ability to turn on the screen but I'd like to retrieve the text messages from it before I send the phone back to the graveyard. It will plug into the Windows computer and I see some of the data (pics, videos etc) but I don't know how to get to the messages. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

What I would do is install Verizon Messages on your new device. Your SMS messages should be on their server, so if syncing is enabled Messages should go back and get everything it has and bring it to the new device.
