Deleting one instance of recurring calendar events

Does anyone know how to delete one occurrence of a calendar event that has recurrences? When i tried i was given two options: delete all events or delete this event and all future events.

1.) Open the event
2.) Click menu > edit event > change only this event
3.) Hide the keyboard and scroll down to the bottom and click delete
4.) With only this event selected, click OK.

Actually, when i hit edit event, i have the same two options: change all events in the series or change this and all future events.

Is this an Exchange calendar or Gmail?

I think it's Gmail (though for some reason my events aren't popping up on my google calendar on my computer).

And it should be synced because my gmail account is checked when i hit menu -> more -> calendar

My instructions above worked with an Exchange account. Gmail must work differently.

I was having this exact same problem until I sync'd my calendar with my google account. Then, the "only this event" option appeared.

Have you also noticed that when you select a calendar event, it quickly flashes a detail screen with "what when where" info and then goes on to a separate detail screen with your google account? I can't figure out how to get back to that first detail screen.
